As fans every time we hear we're interested in a free agent, we tend to get a bit excited. We get excited because we've been so quiet. With that said, we continue to hear about interest, but never see the signing.

Could this be due to the structure of the contract that the player and agent don't agree to, which causes the player not to sign with us or take his time?? Please give me your thoughts, happy Sunday!!!

Ex. We're interested in Barr, but there may be things the cowboys want if he doesn't play a certain amount of games. He and his agent may not agree to this, thus holding up the signing

Randy Gregory, Bobby Wagner, and Von Miller have all publicly said they would be Cowboys right now if the contract was competitive.

What that tells me is Jerry didn’t need those players, he was simply seeing if he bargain shopped, would anyone bite. I believe Dallas is currently at the place they expected to be with the offers they presented.

Only FA that would get me excited is good 1 tech DT. Possibly a swing tackle. Other than that I like where we are and wouldnt want to inhibit growth.

Perhaps a time may come when the opportunity presents itself to finally be acted upon.

Evidently, the pickings right now don't seem especially obvious. The final cuts, maybe?

I'm not sure it is the language in the contract I think it is simply $ symbols in the contract.

There's no hold up. There never was any competitive interest. The Cowboys simply do not compete for high priced free agents. Haven't done so for quite some time.

Ya'll know Jerry doesn't like t spend that money.

There are tons of reasons contracts aren’t agreed to. Mostly I’m sure a difference of opinion on money. But one other thing we seem to do a lot of at this time of the year is bring in marginal guys to get a feel for what we will do if something happens like an injury so if the guy is still available we can act quickly and sign him when the need arises.

Some of the younger free agents will sign a cheap deal for a year in exchange for the exposure the Cowboys get them but many of the free agents know it is probably their last contract and want as much as they can get.

It is supply vs. demand and the owners and players are both playing the game until they meet on some common ground.

What’s the holdup?

Jerry/Stephens’s belief that players should play for free and just the honor of wearing a star on their helmet.

I call bs on Gregory….the contract was the exact same as Denver but with protection for Dallas bc he couldn’t be trusted. I have zero reservations letting that guy go be someone else’s issue.

I understood Randy Gregory's deal in Denver was the same amount of salary, just no extra language about personal conduct. If true, you really can't blame the Cowboys for protecting themselves.

It’s simple.

What Dallas offers isn’t enough. /end discussion

No I agree with your stance, but in my opinion from Gregory’s perspective, a contract that threatens to void moneys just for fines is worse than a contract with a lower total $ amount

Right, but it’s also an understanding that they weren’t willing to meet the Broncos’ terms.

If Jerry felt he was that important to their future, he’d be a Cowboy right now. This tells us he didnt. We can use that same process with Anthony Barr. Why isn’t he a Cowboy yet? What if he signs somewhere else with Dallas’s public interest. It says Jerry wanted him, but he didn’t really want him. Sammy Watkins, Earl Thomas, We’ve seen this before.

I think the it might be two-fold. They might want to see what they have. Then it's a matter of working out a contract the team feels comfortable with.

21 million free CAP space, It’s more of the incompetent Stephen Jones with no accountability for doing his job.

Look, I wanted a great 1T in FA like many here. This said, I think the Jones are some of the few current owners that were forced to let championship players leave when the CAP was brought in. The late 90's were very tough years for the Cowboys after winning three SB's. They became gun shy I believe
