The "if we take a" series, WR

Didn't say they wouldn't be taken there, I said they weren't worth the pick. So it is not incorrect.

Didn't you say you don't even bother to evaluate previous drafts, who worked out and who didn't and why? W/o that, rating players is fruitless.

There are players rated where they shouldn't be rated every draft. Do you really think Taco was a 1st round prospect?

When I make a statement as I did, it's due to examining what the experts have to say. They are the ones who go over every player in detail, w/ an extreme eye on what will make them successful or not.

McMillian: IMO, McM is going to have trouble getting off the LOS. He appears to be quite susceptible to press man coverage. Too skinny to block.

What are you seeing/reading that makes you think top 10?
I never said that…I love the draft…watch and read up on players every year.

I just find it interesting how you come to the draft forums, have bold takes and don’t even watch the players. Maybe just lead with - “According to ABC - he/she has this to say about a player.”

Tmac and Burden are my 1st round WRs. TMac being WR1 and is the only one where the value matches up well at 12.

Egbuka is a fringe 1st rounder so fine in a trade down.

Golden is more of a 2nd rounder for me. He was a 2nd rounder the entire process then had a few good games down the stretch and ran fast and now all of a sudden he’s supposed to be a top 15 player. Smaller frame and below average production profile if being considered as a 1st round player. One of the most overrated players being talked about in the 1st round IMO.
Slave to your preseason rankings.

I don't watch TV draft stuff. Too much hoopla.

And I find it interesting how you watch a few TV shows and think your take is the only one.

Are we done w/ the childish insults yet?

Me either. I prefer podcasts and listening to the analysts I respect but I enjoy watching the actual players like a lot of the active posters on the draft forums to form a full opinion on the player.

Don’t feel like I’ve insulted you just felt it worth calling out that discussion on players carries a lot more weight if you actually watch them.

If not just cite your source and give him / her credit. Or don’t…do you man!

It's not a stretch if you consider the lack of respect slot guys get.

Was Edelmann the best in the league? Sure was up there in catches. So, a guy who catches the short stuff can't be the best?

Burden is an absolute beast in the slot. Pretty much unguardable.
No Edelman wasn't the best in the league. As good as he was, IMO, his overall success was a product of their dominate 12 personal system. They forced teams to cover the TE's and respect the RB on every down. The slot guy was the beneficiary of that.

Don't get me wrong, I think Burden is really good, dynamic even. But no, I do not see the best WR in this class when I look at him. I don't see a possible future #1 WR like I do in Tet MCM.

On paper he would be a great pick for us. He and Lamb together could be awesome to watch.
But the reports are that he's a diva and I really dislike those types of players. They cause headaches and divide locker rooms. I'm not sure our current looker room can deal with that stress. Can Dak? Can CDL?

You were very insulting. I didn't even bring up your Charles Harris misevaluation. Remember that? You really want to start this little insult war by getting personal, then it's going to get ugly. Why would you want that? Can't we talk about who we like and why w/o little personal digs? So stupid. Weren't you one of the ones who was arguing w/ me that the guy we took (Malik Collins) was a better prospect than the guy I wanted?(Javon Hargrave)? Weren't you one of the ones arguing that Parsons wasn't much of a pass rusher? What's w/ all this oneupmanship crapp? Aren't you better than this?

Ridiculing someone personally isn't going to lead to any type of producting convo. I have my sources that I trust, you have yours. Isn't that enough?

Sure everyone says that. Meanwhile, he's leading the league in catches and absolutely tore up the super bowl as the MVP. Can a slot WR be a #1? Do you realize that Lamb catches a lot of his passes out of the slot? Do we discount those then?

Didn't know about the Diva stuff. Guess that depends on whether he comes to play or lets it affect his game, right?

Certainly wasn’t the intent - just trying to call a spade a spade.

And man what a memory you have! Heck yea I was wrong on Harris. I’ll save you the time on digging through older threads for insults and let you know I was wrong on a lotttttt more players than just him. A lot. Was also right on quite a few especially related to the Cowboys. That’s what makes this fun!

But on a side note I absolutely loved Parsons and was so happy we drafted him. BPA for the win!

Sure man - I just think posting someone elses opinion as your own without watching the players is a little off but to each their own. Happy posting!

Sure a slot can be a #1, as long as he can also play outside. Lamb can do both. Burden probably can or will be able to soon enough.
J Jefferson comes to mind real quick. If you can prove Burden will be the Justin Jefferson of this class, than I stand mistaken. Because I was screaming for Jefferson the year we took CDL. But at that time no one thought Lamb would be available at 17 so I was all about JJ there. Hindsight is 20/20 but I'm not sure I would still take CDL over JJ. That would be a tough debate.

But as of now, without the benefit of hindsight, I don't see Burden as a better prospect than either TMC, Hunter or Golden. Maybe I get proven wrong, time will tell. But instincts say take the others before him.

Burden is a monster. He’s got tape winning inside and out.

If the off the field stuff isn’t an issue he’s WR2 for me.

He also dominated the SEC at the age of 19 I believe.

McShay........

As I have said, the media scouts have moved Golden way up due to his combine. Cnu makes a good point, why didn't anyone have him that high before? As many have stated, that 4.2 speed doesn't show up on tape and basically drafting the player on his 40 time and playing well in 2 games down the stretch. Both T-Mac/Burden had terrible QB's and still were more productive in their college careers.

McMillian and Hunter both are to me. But Hunter will be a CB first, WR second. He would be a great pick for us as we need both! (not that he'll get to 12)
He could come in every few plays and give defenses something to worry about, whether he's targeted or not.

Burden is good, but the best in the class? That's a stretch IMHO.
I would consider trading up for Hunter if the price was discounted.

I think the Houston production is more concerning than the UT production. Golden was there and was supposed to be the guy but got hurt so then Golden became the guy and played well.

What the heck was going on in Houston?

There is nothing lamer than someone developing a stridently rigid opinion about a prospect based on what they’ve read (ie. what someone else supposedly watched and concluded).

Watch the players.

We’re living in a time where you have nearly unlimited access to game cutups, All-22, breakdowns, game replays, etc cetera.

Form your own opinions dorks!

First, I'm thrilled they may take a top WR, it's long overdue and a necessary step towards making a push in the post season. I'd be happy with any of the top five guys.

In the top tier, if Hunter fell to 12 it would be a no brainer but that most likely won't happen.
“He’s the best receiver in this class and then there is a big dropoff. He’s comparable to last year’s big three of (Malik) Nabers, (Marvin) Harrison (Jr.) and (Rome) Odunze, in my opinion.” – NFC personnel director

In the second tier, Burden has the talent but the baggage seems to be an issue.
McMillan and Golden would both be good targets and if they took McMillan it would say that his 30 visit went well.

In the third tier I think Egbuka would see the field and be productive earlier than later.

My preference would be Golden because we need more speed on offense. He produces on all three levels and rises to the occasion in big games. Lance thinks he could develop into a WR1:

"Golden’s starting-level traits and big leap forward as a go-to playmaker have him primed to become a productive catch-maker with the potential to develop into a WR1 in the future."

Doesn't anyone on this board realize the Cowboys had the 28th-ranked Defense with the 31st points allowed last year?

Why draft a WR when he's only going to sit on the bench watching his defense taken to the woodshed.?

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!

I'm with you here. I was down on Burden for most of this draft season, but watching more of him, he's got the most pro-like skillset and movement, and looks like he plays at a different speed than the other top WRs.

McMillan has always been and remains the top WR in the draft. There may be legit questions about his speed and/or character, but we can only go on the info we have--excellent production and good enough measurables.

Egbuka is a reliable player but mediocre prospect, in that he has limited ceiling.

Golden is a great prospect but too much projection for my tastes. He doesn't look as fast as he is and is also small. To his credit, he plays a bit bigger than he is with contested catches, and is a clutch player.

Because we have needs everywhere.

If BPA is a WR like McMillan at a premium position you draft him. If it’s a defender at a premium, position, cool, you draft him.
