It would be a good scenario to have Green as the starter and Free as the backup.

Green was good in his two starts at LT but with his injury history they need more than Cleary as the swing OT.

I just don't know if Garrett would do it.

Also, if they cut Free I think some team might be dumb enough to pay him a few mil on a 1 year deal.

Package Free, Romo, and the first round pick to move up to get the Aggie defensive end.

It'll likely be difficult at best to locate and acquire a FA RT capable of replacing Free and doing appreciably better but it's worth a try. I wouldn't attempt a costly investment in doing so, however. Both the draft and vet FA are fairly unimpressive at that position. With our defense damanding attention at several positions, RT might very well be pushed back to no sooner than fourth round or later. Of course, that's not necessarily written in stone if someone deemed reasonably desirable by the staff turns up. Surprise cuts and/or a trade is possible as a viable option to address as well.

Just looking at some of our AFC opponents this year, we face Von Miller, Khalil Mack, and Justin Houston. I think finding a new RT is going to be a lot more important than a WR2 on offense. I see Zeke and Dez both getting more targets in the receiving game this year but I would hate for our offense to sputter because of the one and only weak link on the offensive line. Free is below average now and Green you can't trust to stay healthy. What do you guys think we'll do? Part of me is scared that we're going to roll with what we have and hope one pans out
with all this belowe avg talk its amazing Dallas had so much success. Smith and Free were both solid this yr. Both has periods where they struggled, mostly with penalties.

I just re-watched all of Cleary's snaps in the final game of the regular season. He started and played all the offensive snaps (at LT).

He was better than I expected. Physically, he looks like he can do the job. Any problems he had were related to hesitation on stunts and blitzes. He was next to Looney at LG. If he was a RT next a Zack Martin, it would be a huge benefit to him. In general, I think he just needs a lot of snaps in the preseason.

If it were my decision, I would just keep Free through training camp and then cut him is Green and Cleary meet expectations. I doubt if the Cowboys handle it like that, but that's how I would do it.

Right but I have my doubts either one will prove satisfactory. Green is injury prone and Cleary is said to be slow-footed.
Everyone is injury prone........Leary, Tron, LCollins all missed time....Green is no different

Actually, I think he's more susceptible than most -- his entire career in college was inundated with injury issues and now, same here. Don't get me wrong -- I hope he overcomes his past. Nobody would be more pleased than myself to see him find success as our RT. It wouldn't keep me from looking for additional help in the draft, though.

Free is a good run blocker, but a horrible pass blocker. He was either 2nd or 3rd in the league in sacks and pressures allowed.

For $7.5 million I think we could find a better option.

Free was a decent G, may be it would be worth a try to flip Free and Collins
