I think one of the least talked about but most important considerations with JG being brought back is how big of a distraction this guy has become. Fans, local media, and national media all either want him gone or place some to most of the blame for the teams shortcomings on him. Bringing him back would ignite a firestorm that would take away all attention from the product on the field.
After Zeke’s fiasco, JG’s job security was the most talked about thing on this team. Every win and every loss was tied to “is Garrett on the hotseat, is this his last game, super bowl or bust.” I’ve never heard the phrase ‘Lame Duck Coach’ as much as I did this season, Garrett was headline #1 most of the season.
Could you imagine what that would be like if he were brought back for a year or more? 2020 would be marred just as 2019 was. Jerry knows that that’s all everyone’s gonna be talking about and nobody in their right mind thinks that’s an atmosphere that’s gonna breed success.
No way Jerry and Stephen wanna deal with the season long backlash of retaining JG. I can’t see a scenario where he is the head coach in 2020.
