THE is in big letters to accentuate the singularity of the topic of this thread, one key. One element that takes this team from a mid level team to an upper echelon NFC true contender for a 9th trip.

THE key for me is the most intriguing part of the team and one of the two major ?'s along with this secondary, the DL.

It is intriguing because of the unknowns that have been knowns in the past. Lawrence has a down year in spite of having a good pass rusher on the other end, McCoy and Poe are past performers but have more years on them, Gregory showed some flash when he last played in spite of having some issues of staying on his own side of the los until the ball is snapped but he did show something. Add to this Hill, the disappointment of 2019 and Gallimore, considered a good find at that pick.

Even if this offense isn't the top one in yards as it was in 2019, it is still formidable and balanced with as a good a set of skill position players as any team in the league. The offense should be plenty good enough to make the playoffs, if the defense doesn't give up too much.

That DL, that's the difference between a 9-7 team grabbing the 7th spot and a division winner fighting for the top spot. And I cannot think of a time in recent history where it was such an unknown going into the season.

OK, what's your one key between mediocrity and a shot at history?

There is no argument, the key to 2020 is whether or not Dak can take the next step. If he does, there's already a Super Bowl caliber team in place and we'll all be very happy.

I agree ,a better pass rush would offset some losses in the secondary.I still think RE is a weak spot and they should sign Griffin.

Linebackers need to be protected by the DL. We were repeatedly gashed in the run game by opponents at critical times. The contributed heavily to the O repeatedly having to drive long distances. So it is a DL issue with me too. Of course I agree with better pass rushing.

Gotta beat the Rona first!!

I have a pair of rangy white Yorkshires named Mutt n' Jeff...but the secondary will be strong in packages. The defensive line will be ready by the start of the season...

so,

Week 1: @ Los Angeles Rams – Sunday Night Football

Brandin Cooks, Todd Gurley, Eric Weddle, and Clay Matthews are out. It’s hard to know where the Rams stand in 2020. There are issues on their offensive line, including the fact that Andrew Whitworth will hit 39 in December.

For the Rams, it’s likely all about the quarterback. Can Jared Goff bounce back from a somewhat disappointing 2019 campaign? Even more interesting, can Sean McVay’s coaching staff bounce back before we start questioning its future?

Week 2: VS Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons defense was terrible in 2019 and should bounce back in 2020 with a few key additions the team has made in the offseason. But can Matt Ryan’s offense keep up with Drew Brees’ Saints and Tom Brady’s Bucs?

For the Falcons, the problem seems to be depth. Deion Jones is a good linebacker, Keanu Neal a good safety. But can they stay healthy? Their offensive line is a promising unit, and it’ll be interesting to see how Todd Gurley does behind it.

Week 3: @ Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks are always in contention thanks to one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Russell Wilson. But have they done enough upfront to protect him? And is Pete Carroll finally going to be more aggressive on offense? I’m excited to watch D.K. Metcalf’s sophomore season after he caught 58 passes for 900 yards.

One other question regarding the Seahawks comes in the pass rush department. Are they bringing Jadeveon Clowney back? Last year, they were terrible getting to the opposing quarterback. If they want to have a shot at the division, this needs to improve.

I'm only allowed one key? Our defensive scheme last year was garbage. We had the personnel to do some damage on defense, and we instead got damaged frequently. On paper we look much better this year. My key is Mike Nolan's defensive scheme.

Both the defensive line and secondary have to take a defined step forward.

This linebacker group should be what connects them both and be the driving force. It should be dominant with the talent that starts.

DL and QB two key areas.

If DL can pressure and cause havoc on the playoff caliber teams we normally struggle with and if our QB can keep from struggling against the better teams we could be a serious contender in conference .

I think the rest of our offense is championship caliber , our LB’s if healthy one of the best groups in the league and secondary good enough if DL applied pressure and disruption .

The top offense with a consistent average to above average QB and top 10 caliber defense could cause some noise.

It would be hard to argue anything you stated. New coaching staff seems to value the tackle position more than the last one. Hope the players are up to the task.
