Thought I would do a little Tuesday morning math. Just a comparison for yards accrued by Witten through 13 games in 2017 versus the Swaim/Jarwin/Schultz committee through 13 games in 2018. We have given this group a lot of criticism while bemoaning the retirement of J Witt.

So the yardage number through 13 games. Witten, 467 yards and Swaim/Jarwin/Schultz 454. Seems the TE by committee is producing similar stats. Granted Witt had 5 TD's in 2017. Not all red zone either. I think it was 3 red zone TD's.

I know I'm gonna get slammed for saying this BUT I think both Jarwin and Schultz have a lot of upside. Certainly more than Witt at the end of his career. I'm not crying for a TE in the second round of the draft in 2019. I want to see what Schultz does with an off season of strength and conditioning as much as I want to see it with Connor Williams.I like Swaim/Jarwin/Schultz's game and they're young and evolving not old and devolving (like Witt and I)

In the words of the WHO... the kids are all right

The kids are playing good but they don’t have that security blanket effect a vet has like witten
No doubt witten was at the end of his career and the kids with a healthy swain may work out well as they develope
TE is a slow to develope spot even for top prospects. It’s a complicated position at this level

None will ever be elite so you have to keep looking. I think they will look to free agency for one. There are a few TEs around the league that are pretty good and are stuck in the #2 role. They may be available or a few others may be cut to make room for the younger player.

Dang, I forgot to add Rico's 3 catches in there for 45 yards. Wouldn't mind an Ertz, Engram, OJ Howard or Travis Kelce BUT as colonel Klink would say.... SCHULTZZZZZZ!

Eric Ebron. I said it since FA this year but we'll be facing him this week and he's got a 2 year * mil per deal. But when a guy who is 25, can catch and block as well as he does you have to look at him.

We better be planning for him and TY Hilton because those are the guys producing off of Andrew Luck's targets.

Excellent point. $13, 000, 000 for 2 years ain't chump change but yep, coulda shoulda woulda :)

Ebron was his go to guy in the Redzone against Miami. Not sure who will cover him 1 v 1 for the Cowboys. Hopefully not Heath.

Witten's 1st year, had 35 catches for 347 yards. The other TE on the roster was Dan Campbell with 20 receptions
Schultz and Swaim and Jarwin all are splitting time.

I was not a fan of drafting Schultz at that point in the draft. But he is growing on me. So maybe let's see what he can do in year 2 to see what happens.
If there is a TE in the draft that is just to good, can't pass him up. But maybe they should not reach or draft one to just draft one.
But hard to say at this point.

But I am ok with the way they been incorporating them lately, and getting some production.

I call Schultz and Jarwin the TE twins because I have hard time telling them apart when they catch the ball! They are the two guys to watch (and keep) going forward. Swaim and Rico are gonna be let go/traded in the off season.

Yeah I’m in the TE minority as well, don’t see the need for another TE..

Having said that IF a once in a lifetime type talent fell to us I’d take him...
