When he doesn't guarantee a win next week they will figure their coach thinks they can't win.

If we lose there won’t be any love for McCarthy or the team immediately after the game. The way fans live in the moment here it’s going to get pretty nasty on the board with a loss. Fans need to take a deep breath and collect themselves before they post. Emotions are going to be running pretty high after this one if it doesn’t go well.

What about the potential fallout going forward if they lose?

The only upside to MM words is..."yeah see I told you."

The potential downside is enormous.

This isn't a playoff game. But... I guess part of being in this organization is running your mouth.

I dont hear Bruce Arians saying how great they are and will probably repeat...but yeah.

Really.....from every game from here it would be legit for each player to question why the HC hasn't guaranteed victory in advance.....unless they lose.

Then they will just think he is an idiot.

Mike McCarthy......master motivator. Yeah let's see. Him and Jerry hit it off for a reason.

This could backfire so bad if we lose.

If we lose after McCarthy guaranteed a win that could shatter the ole' confidence. All the players will hear is how they failed after their coached guaranteed a victory.

This is a must win.

Not a must win. Washington has won their last three games by a total of 10 pts. On the year they have a negative -51 point total. This is not a team that is going to run the table.

McCarthy just answered a question honestly. It is the media that said it was a guarantee and it is the melodramatic fans acting like it means something.

Wait til after it happens to overreact at least.

It was a must win the minute our doofus coach guaranteed victory.

I don't just mean a must win in terms of the division, but we know have to back up our coaches tough talk against a division rival or deal with the fallout from it.
 
If we lose it will be bad enough. Mike's comments will just be icing on the meltdown cake.
 
I think pre-game “guarantees” are meh. For a host of reasons. I love seeing a team be confident. But you gain confidence through hard work, preparing and ultimately winning, not spoken messages. I’m not mad that he said it, I just think actions are the real talking.

I remember Jimmy’s “We will win” guarantee before the NFC Championship game vs Niners in his last season. I had no problem with that because that team was the defending SB champ and had won like 6 in a row at that time. It was confidence based on recent accomplishments. Big Mac’s statement doesn’t strike me the same way.

No matter what, the Cowboys have to start showing they are more action than talk Sunday.

It's a little dramatic, but this is a defining game. A game we should win, a game which basically gets us in the playoffs if we win. We historically lay an egg on these.

Showing confidence in your players is not TOUGH TALK.

The players need rise up and show confidence that they can back up their coach. They all need to get in the same foxhole. Maybe it's time that a little pressure is put on the players.

This would be a classic game to drive a steak in a division rivals heart but this really isn't close to being a MUST WIN GAME.
 
Rivera is an angry man. MM said "we're". How's that make it "about him" Rivera?!

The Cowboys won their last game and MM said he based that comment on the volume of hard work and progress he had seen them accomplish that week at practice. If a head coach can't express confidence in his team based on that then when can he? When he is about to coach his last game for that team? Hell no! :rolleyes:
