Let's face it: 2007 was our best chance to win it all since the end of the triplets era. We had everything going for us that year. At one point we were 12-1 having already beaten our most serious threat in the NFC, with our only loss coming to the team of the decade--a team we led at one point in the second half. Romo was on fire, TO, Witten and Crayton were playing lights out and the Barbarian could not be stopped. The defense was no slouch either. Even when things went wrong--like Gurode snapping the ball over Romo's head--we nevertheless seemed to make a recovery and pull out a win. We secured HFA throughout the playoffs and fans were already making their reservations for the Super Bowl

Then, our offense went from feast to relative famine. We lose three of our last four games and crash out of the playoffs with a home loss to a division rival we had already beaten twice that year. What the heck happened? Was it bad coaching? Lax atmosphere? Players eating their own press? Bad Luck? Bad timing? Was this our last best chance to win it all in the Romo era? Will it ever fall into place like the way it seemed to that year again or are we going to have to make it back to the big dance the hard way?

Not for nothing but we lost at home by 21 points to the AFC representative that year

Tell me about it...........I booked a flight to Dallas for the............NFC Championship Game that we were sure to host the following week! There was no way we were going to lose to the Gmen, right??

I spent that weekend looking at houses instead. Moved to Dallas in '09 :)

As for what happened....I don't blame Wade.

My $0.02 is that Cowboys - Packers played a HUGE game that year -- I believe both clubs were 11-1 or something like that and the Cowboys <mainly> dominated. They knocked Favre out of the game and pretty much had the game in hand until some scrub called Aaron Rodgers got some playing time and made interesting.

Anyway, the Cowboys never seemed the same after that game to me.

I think I agree BanditHiro. But I do think we could've beaten the Pats in a rematch. At least I think it was possible....maybe not probably, but...

That was a fun year, but I don't think we would've won it all. The Pats were better and we did not match up well.

I think what happened was a combination of things.

1. We had proven everything we needed to. We'd beaten the Giants twice. We'd owned the Packers at home. We were arrogant.

2. Wade Phillips was not the type of head coach to reel our guys in and keep them focused in light of this.

3. But, IMO, the most important thing, Jim Johnson happened to us. The late Eagles defensive coordinator found a way to defend and frustrate Owens with press coverage. He found a way to limit the Cowboys big play offense that year. It's also important to note that he was the first DC to start chipping away at the Patriot Offense's mortality, too. Basically, his game plan armed his enemy (The New York Giants) with the know-how to beat the two best offensive teams that year-- DAL and NE. Garrett couldn't adjust, and we saw more of the Garrett we're used to now.

4. It didn't help that Owens was rushing back from that high ankle sprain, and Glenn was taking snaps for really the first time that year.

I guess we could blame in on injuries, that seems to be why Garrett gets a pass for losing every year.....................just saying.

Honestly the Cowboys had their best shot of winning the SB in 09. We found out in week 6 of the 07 season that the Cowboys didn't match up well with NE who torched the Cowboys 48-27. The Cowboys started fading after the win over the 10-1 Packers in week 13. By week 15 vs Philly I knew the Cowboys were headed for a one and done in the playoffs. They weren't scoring nearly as many points and Romo's game was coming apart.

The Cowboys were in the middle of a real swoon looking nothing like the team we saw the first 12 weeks of that season. In 09 the Cowboys caught fire in Dec beating the 13-0 Saints in the dome. The Cowboys finished that season strong with back to back shutouts. The last 3 games of the 09 season was the best I had seen the defense play in 10 years.. Spencer had come on and Romo was having his best Dec/Jan. This was a much better Cowboys team than the one that beat the 9-0 Colts in 06 who went on to win the SB.

Wade was actually buoyant after that game - pointing out the positives, despite the drubbing. I knew right then, that we'd get smoked in the playoffs by better coaches no matter how talented we were.

Jerry's need to not be out shined by a coach will doom this franchise until he and his progeny have vanished from the face of the earth.

Doesn't matter, we wouldn't of beat the Pats in the SB. Our defense wouldn't of gotten to Brady like the giants did.

You know who feels worse about the 2007 season than the Cowboys do?

The Patriots.

If they get Dallas or Green Bay in the Super Bowl, they win by two scores. They got the only NFC team capable of beating them and spoiling their perfect season. That's a real *****.
