The love for Rhett Bomar

I have seen several people on here say that they wish we would have drafted Rhett Bomar over Stephen McGee. I just wonder how many of the people that wanted us to draft Bomar actually saw Bomar play his senior year? Or how many people are remembering him being a top HS recruit and tring to remember back to how he looked his freshman year at OU?

Being a Texas State alum, I did see Bomar play, and I can say that he was not all that good. Infact, he was at best the 3rd best QB in his own conference and that is in FCS, both Nathan Brown and Bradley George (Texas States QB, he will be a senior next year) were better than Bomar. With Bomar you no doubt get a great arm, but his was extremely inaccurate when I saw him play. He only completed 56% of his passes, and from what I saw, most of those completions were NOT his WR fault, but his fault. He was constantly forcing WR's to reach back for balls or slide to the ground to catch them.

Gil Brandt loved McGee FWIW. Worst case I'd like to see him develop to the point where somebody offers a one or two down the road. Best case starter.

Bomar has the tools, I worry most about his mindset. His ego I think is an issue and while he has appeared to be more humble lately, it to me looks more like he has been told to do it. He reminds me of Ryan Leaf.

I like McGee and think he can be a pro QB, but I think he is raw and it was a big time shame what happen at A&M.

How good can McGee be? Well, I don't think he can be great, but I think with a few years, he could command a well built (good offense) well enough to win even against good teams.

I am not doubting that Rhett Bomar has all the tools. But, the list of QB's that have been complete busts despite the fact that they have all the "tools" is much longer than the list of QB's that have all the tools, and have had success in the NFL.

What I am asking, is do people only want him because he is supposed to have all the tools, or have people actually seen him play recently.

Well, it sucks to have a QB that doesn't have the tools! QBs without a good arm throws lots of INTs because the ball takes so long to get to the receiver.
