In the midst of yet another December collapse, it was apparent that Jerry Jones was visibly upset yesterday. During the broadcast he was seen to throw an object in frustration.
I'm hopeful that same frustration causes him to re-think the way he's doing business - football business anyway.
He can place the required blame wherever he'd like, at Jason Garrett for an offense failing to score points or come through when it matters most.
He can place it at Wade Phillips for similar failures defensively or for being too 'nice'.
He can place it on players who continue to come up small in the biggest games.
Or he can look inward and examine the man who put all of those pieces together.
The man who assembled all of them in the same place.
He can perform a self-evaluation and realize that maybe his way of doing football business is hurting the very franchise he loves so much.
This isn't a Jerry bash rant as I think the man truly wants to win. And I feel that he does as good a job as any owner in football in marketing his team, generating revenue, and using that revenue to stockpile the best talent he can.
But his overbearing methods also work to his team's detriment, and that part needs to change.
No man is an island, and no man can be all things to all people.
I think it's time for Mr Jones to take a step back, smell the roses, enjoy the fruits of his labors, spend more time with the grandkids, and live his life more and micro-manage the Cowboys less.
I know this will be a similar refrain but as a fan I truly feel that until this dynamic changes that the end results won't.
If there's one thing that I hope for this season is that this year's disappointment will lead to personal reflection and a fundamental change in the way ownership runs the team.
