I think coal can taste better if you know how to cook with it.
I don't so I haven't really ever been interested in a coal grill myself. Maybe some point down the road.
Just from a practical standpoint, propane is going to be about 10X cleaner, easier and safer.
Why not get the propane version of the grill you linked.
Kind of funny that the charcoal grill is only $10 cheaper than the propane one.
I picked up something like that a while back for liked $30 at a department store because I needed a small grill that I could move out of sight. My apartment didn't allow for grilling near the complex and all I had was a balcony.
Actually turned out to be one of the best grills I've ever used.
The tanks are small, cost about $6 for two of them and last about 7-10 cookouts. Plus, if you forget to turn the grill off you've only wasted $3 in propane instead of an entire tank.
It heated up quick and got back up to cooking temperature quickly after closing the lid.
I turned out some excellent steaks on that thing.
Getting coals prepped is a pain, IMO. Probably the main reason why I'm not very solid at cooking with them.
Couldn't you go with the propane and use coal anyway. Just throw the coals in there and start em up with propane.
Wouldn't that give you the ability to use coal if you wanted to at the park or where ever and the ability to use propane on the deck?
If it were me, I wouldn't want to have to hassle with starting the coals and disposing of them when I'm done if I am not supposed to be grilling up there. Too much work and coals can put off a lot of additional odor and smoke.
