The METHODOLOGY of the Loss

What bothers me most is the WAY we lost. It was obvious from the start that the Cowboys just showed up to play a football game. After our early threat konked out with a missed field goal, we just quit trying to win. Well, except for the drive in which Roy caught the great pass and then coughed up the ball.

Except for the final few minutes, when the Packers yanked our pants down, we played like we were satisfied with the way the contest was going.

As the game wore on and it became apparent that both offenses were sputtering, why in the hell didn't WE change what we were doing?

Did you notice that we never went deep today? And you didn't see any flea-flickers either, did you? Any reverses....single or double?
Did you even see any misdirection plays? Any fake punts, and there was a damn good time for one, too? How about screens? Old fashioned ones, not quick, wide receiver screens.

Did you see anything at all that indicated that Dallas was willing to devote ONE PLAY to make a big impact and change the momentum of the game? Hell, maybe a QUICK STRIKE.....just to get on the scoreboard? Even in the second half?

A single touchdown would have given us the lead. It would have shocked the Packers, maybe set them on their heels, quieted their fan support, and changed the momentum in our favor.

When whatever your doing clearly isn't working, it's time to shake things up.

Call something they're not expecting. Get a little tricky if you have to, but just get that score! Statue of Liberty, hidden ball play, fake punt, long, deep pass, maybe cross-field? It doesn't matter. Did we even try a halfback pass? Maybe something out of the wildcat that had Scandrick tossing a long ball to someone that had sneaked behing the Packer secondary? Because they we drawn in on..........what looked like a running play?

Did you see one indication that whoever was in charge of strategy had finally figured that the short game wasn't going anywhere, and that maybe we should alter our gameplan?

You knew by the end of the first half, this was going to be a low scoring game. You probably suspected it by the end of the first quarter. When the score is zero to zero or zero to three, and the second half is beginning to wind down, you should realise that only 1 or 2 TD's will make the difference. The difference you want......(if you really want it).

I saw no evidence today that the powers that be Cowboys wanted to drive a stake into the Packers. No aggressiveness. No killer instinct. No taking a chance to get the upperhand on a foe.

No aggressive play-calling, no tricks, no real misdirection.....nothing.

The guy who drives the train was asleep at the throttle..........

When just a little throttling up could have made such a big difference!

So......is disheartened the right word?

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent.......
