I watched the first episode and I was bored out of my mind. It was so clichéd. I loved the short story and the movie, but this adaptation doesn't do it for me.

10-15 minutes into the first episode and we get the religious south-like BS, teen angst, and some odd "White people are bad!" message.

I get Stephen King's books a lot of times explore the negatives of religious dogma, but it just feels so forced here. I mean, a goth teen? What is this 1996? What next, they going to have one of the parents complain about Marilyn Manson and violent video games?

In the book and movie, they explored the whole religion aspect better. People reverting back to tribal and group think due to fear and using outlandish claims like "God is punishing us" to cope with a situation - Here though, I don't know, it actually FEELS like made-for-TV in a day and age where TV is starting to match the big screen which is setting a bar for all TV shows.

I'll give it a couple more episodes, but it better do better.

You nailed it. Just as I said, it is so clichéd. I mean who couldn't see the plot point a MILE away when the teenage daughter girl was date raped after her mother forbid the girl from going to a party (because the mother has had something similar happen to her before) but then her father saying the daughter could go behind the mother's back. C'mon, do you have to make it so obvious? There where multiple points that I shook my head at because I have seen it before in multiple shows but it's always the same.

All true.
Im wary already but will record another episode or two. If I get around to it, I'll watch them.

Watched the first two episodes tonight.

I thought it was wee-bit better than OK. Not great, not terrible.

I enjoyed the book and greatly enjoyed the movie.

The series is going to go at much slower pace... My hope is they get into more of the "why" of it happening as the series progresses.

You guys should check out Sky Atlantic's Fortitude. Fun sci-fi series with the awesome Stanley Tucci.

Also, Channel 4's (UK) Utopia. An extraordinary sci-fi/thriller. Beautiful, and I mean beautiful cinematography.
