The more I think about, the more I want to trade out of the first.

Obviously, it depends on who is there and what I can get for a trade. But picking up an extra third sounds real good right now.

For instance, if Malcolm Brown is there at 27, I think I trade out. I might be crazy but give me the extra pick. What is better: getting Brown or getting someone like Grady Jarrett or Xavier Cooper in the second and then using the extra pick in the third for a defensive end like Clark? And still having picks in the second and third for a corner and RB?

The defense has so many holes that coming out of the draft with a tackle, an end and a corner in the first three rounds sounds mighty good to me.

Thoughts?

I don't think I could pass on Brown. He's incredibly disruptive.

Give me Malcom Brown AND Grady Jarrett. :)

Yeah, that would be great but we are in need of corners too. So you take Brown and Garret in the first three rounds plus a RB in there too. That leaves corner until the fourth and the talent there drops. Brown is enticing but if I can trade out, I think I do it.

If I took Brown and Jarrett in the 1st and 2nd, then I'd probably go CB in the 3rd and RB in the 4th. This RB class in so deep that there are guys we could get solid production out of that will still be there in the 4th round. Just my opinion.

But man, think about a DL of Hardy, Brown, Jarrett, Lawrence. Phew.

I could see that. It's tough. You are gambling that a good RB will still be there at 4.

That would be beautiful.

That depth it would bring us as well.

Without seeing how the draft falls I too would try to turn that 1st rounder into as many picks as possible.

The positions we have needs at are DEEP

I would pass on 1 really good player for a bunch of role players that can do their job at an adequate level.

Im willing to give up a little quality with a player like Kendricks and just move back.

Look at how the Patriots do it, they have a stable of running backs, not one main one and they still get it done.
we need to concentrate on the defense side on this draft, if Brown is there, take him!!

Yes but I'm not sure the Cowboys follow the same game plan. If you check their invites, they brought in A LOT of RBs from the draft. Big backs who can take the bulk of the carries. It's what we hope they do but in reality it seems they want a back that can take at least 70% of the snaps. Now I'm sure (or let's hope) they've learned that they need to spread the snaps among all their RBs but I doubt they will with a RB committee.

I'm looking at 65-70% (feature back) 20% (backup) 5-10% (specialty back).

or it could be a smoke screen for the other teams, thinking that they are going to select a RB with an early pick, pushing players they really want down the draft board. Does anyone know if Shane Ray is supposed to be at the draft, I heard this morning he could fall to the 2nd or 3rd round now.

You've got some company with this thought process as I agree with you. Unless a top talent drops, I wouldn't mind a trade down.

But I would have to strongly consider Gregory or Ray if they were there.

You are only allowed 30 visits. I dont want to go look it up but I'm sure its around 6 RBs. Gurley, Ajayi, Gordon, Yeldon, Coleman, Allen, and more for private workouts. Doesn't seem like a smoke screen to me.

Since the Cowboys seem to draft, in the early rounds, almost exclusively from the pool of people they bring in I doubt its a smoke screen.

I am on board with a trade down. I think there are about a half dozen guys that will be available when we get to #27 that would all be suitable for picking. Might as well maximize and get one of them AND add a 3rd rounder.
