The more time to prep, the worse this offense is

1. With two weeks to prep, we scored 16 points on the Pats. That is the second lowest point total against them all year (only the chiefs did worse).

2. With 10 days to prep, we scored 13 against the Cardinals. That is tied for the lowest point total against them all year (tied with seattle and st. louis)

what gives?

Garrett outthinks himself a lot IMO. He tries to get too cute and trick the opposing defense instead of just doing what is repeatedly working.

Our offense isn't very good with Miles out and a terrible offensive line? Pretty self explanatory.

He has only been at it since 2007, give him more time.

I noticed this too. I'm like did they practice? Garrett needs to do a better job with our red zone offense, clock management and discipline (too many penalties).

Austin was not doing anything special.

Aside from the SF game he didn't really do anything that would make anyone believe that he's the sole reason for the current offensive struggles.

Landry had the same problem. But he managed to usually keep it under control. Red Ball has to show that he can control himself; he really needs someone to act as a NO man on the staff.

I think there are more obvious reasons for the struggles we occasionally face. The issue is blocking. Look at the games where the blocking is good and you will see a pretty good offense with the odd red zone struggle mixed in. Look at the games where the blocking is poor and you will see us struggle unless Romo is playing out of this world (see 2nd half SF, 2nd half Wash #2).

We will always struggle so long as we are as weak we are in the middle of this OL.

The other thing I'll point out is that our skill personnel (outside of QB) have been quite pedestrian this year. Murray is a good rookie RB but that's all that he is. He was a 3rd round pick, he is not Adrian Peterson II. Felix is an excellent COP back with good all-around skills but he is also brittle and not very useful without decent blocking. Dez is still trying to learn routes, route running, route adjustments and hot reads. Robinson is a kid off the street who has been dumped by 3 teams already and struggles when pressed and who makes most of his plays off Romo's improvs. Witten is a very good and consistent TE but he is not explosive.

Miles is the one true game breaker we have at an offensive skill position who has been proven to be a superior player over time. However, he has been dinged up all year.

To me this offense is a surprise. It has played better than can be expected based on the skill personnel and the blocking. We need our guys healthy and a better OL to become a great offense.

I really think Garrett has done a very good job with this group. I am excited to see what he can do next year without such a flawed roster.

Landry also had a great defensive mind and a roster loaded with Hall of Fame and all-decade talent. Garrett doesnt have the luxury of brain farts.

Actually, it seems like the absence of Fiametta has been more significant than Austin.

Both those teams killed us with interior pressure.

We're going to see it, until we prove we can beat it. Getting Miles and Fiametta back should help in that regard.

Yah. This isn't what happened in either of those games.

We need help along the interior of the o-line.

Over thinking and thus making it more complicated that it needs to be.

On the JG Show this week- last question to him; "If you could spend a day with anybody (living or dead) who would it be?

JG's answer; Albert Einstein. Really? That is the best he could come up with??

I am beginning to worry about the guy. Hope he isn't actually "believing" all the crap he hears from the media about "smartest guy in the NFL."

If he was all that smart and wanted to impress us with dedication and willingness to learn, he could have said Landry, Lombardi, etc~ If he was normal guy, he could have said.. oh, I don't know... Cleopatra? ;)

We do. And we need to handle blitz pressure up the middle better. It's not just the linemen.

To hear Hauck talk about it this week, it's all we've been working on with our protections. I'm sure they expect to see a ton of it, too.

Of all the things there are to worry about with Jason Garrett, this isn't one. ;)

My wife has the same problem: paralysis by analysis. It takes weeks just to move the sofa to just the right spot.

Our HC/OC tends to overthink things, if you haven't noticed. I will give him this; he can focus at the task at hand.

Landry had a roster of hall of fame talent his first year????? Really? If we had this media coverage Landry's first year, he would have been skewered much worse than Garret by the armchair coordinators.

From 1965 to 1985, Landry had at least five players on his roster every year who are either in the HOF or on one of the NFL all-decade teams. Nobody expects anything from an expansion franchise.

Can you name five players like that on this team? Ware and Witten are the only transcendent players Garrett has.

Against two of the worse defenses in the NFL. Arizona 25th and NE is 32nd. :banghead:

One thing that is encouraging is that the offensive appears to play much better on turf than grass. The Cards, Eagles and Pats all grass fields, the interior of the line played pretty darn well vs Detroit and a few others on turf, so who knows.
