From a gossip site...

Eddie Murphy will star as “The Riddler” while Shia LaBeouf will play the caped crusader’s sidekick “Robin” in the next installment, tentatively titled Gotham.

Actress Rachel Weisz is reportedly in the frame to play “Catwoman” Christian Bale will return as “Bruce Wayne” and Michael Caine will again play his assistant “Alfred”, according to British newspaper The Sun. The movie, which is slated for a 2010 release, will be directed by Christopher Nolan, who made The Dark Knight such a huge success when it was released this year. A source says, “Chris wasn’t sure if he wanted to do another movie but as soon as he decided to, he got the wheels in motion Eddie’s a fantastic addition. Everyone’s excited to see what he does as the Riddler”. Congrats to Eddie. This ought to be interesting…

There is not one shred of reality in any of these rumors.

Here's the latest facts on a sequel to DARK KNIGHT...

No talent has a finished contract yet. Specifically, Chris Nolan doesn't have a deal. The word I'm having is that Chris would like to do another project before leaping back into BATMAN - if he decides to do another. We're hearing he may very well do THE PRISONER next - which would mean... no valid BATMAN rumors until much later.

There is no story treatment on anybody's desk at Warners. No accepted pitches. No talent beyond Chris Nolan has been approached. Now... would Warners like to be immediately in development on the new caped crusader film with Bale and Nolan? You betcha, but that's why they're giving Nolan the room he needs to come back to the cowl.

^ Re: Harry Knowles' take, he's somewhat full of crap too. Him saying that nothing is going on with BATMAN 3 is not true -- he's just out of the loop.

HTown... can you confirm that both Nolan and Bale have said that Robin will (thankfully) never appear in any film they have anything to do with?

Yeah I have some friends from across the pond and they said that you simply can't believe anything they report in The Sun cause it's always false and garbage.

I doubt, very seriously, if they do infact use the Riddler that Murphy will be the guy to play it. Johnny Depp, on the other hand, would be an excellent Riddler.

Of course I also believe Depp is the one actor who could actually live up to the role Ledger built for the Joker, should they ever decide to recast for that character.

Yes. As long as Chris Nolan is directing, they won't use the Robin character. This next one is most likely the last for Nolan and co. and a new creative team will eventually take over.

Heh, I knew you'd be all over this, but that's why I posted it.

I didn't get it from the Sun. Got it from another site that got it from the Sun.

Ha! It started at The Sun yesterday and then got picked up by both gossip and some mainstream news sites. Total bunk, trust me. :starspin

I know Htown and many other will disagree but there has to be someone better to play Batman than Bale. I still don't like and probably never will. He was schooled by pretty much every actor in the movie IMO....well except for Eric Roberts. :D

Well, I'd have to respectfully disagree with that and Bale is the best to date. I don't see much of anything off with his performance.

With that said, he'll do another one and I'm sure someone will take on the role after Nolan leaves the franchise.

Eddie Murphy would be the biggest mistake ever. Unfortunately his status as an actor right now is somewhere between Gary Coleman and Verne Troyer.

Are their any good french actors? If im not mistaken isn't the Riddler French? like writes in french but can speak english?

Changing the pitch of your voice every once in a while isn't acting. I still think Keaton was better.

Somewhat? hehe I'd say he's got about 300 lbs. full of crap, the rest is...probably not worth mentioning.

Meh, his voice as Batman is a non-issue to me.

The key to playing Batman is not "Batman," it's Bruce Wayne. And Bale is absolutely fabulous as BW.

I never once bought Keaton as Wayne or The Batman.

Like you said we agree to disagree

Murphy's acting is not the problem. It is his choice in movie roles that sucks. That and studios willing to put out those horrible movies.

I dunno, I'd love to see Donkey as the next villain in the Batman series.
