The next great Dallas QB

Dallas has been very fortunate to have developed 3 great QBs in franchise history. Don Meredith, Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman all started and ended their careers as Cowboys. They were all highly regarded college quarterbacks. They also have all played in the Cotton Bowl.

Don and the Cowboys called the Cotton Bowl home during his career. Perhaps Don even played a game or two there while with SMU, but I am not sure about that. Roger led Navy to the Cotton Bowl and also played with Dallas in the Cotton Bowl until Texas Stadium opened up. Troy led his Bruins to the Cotton Bowl as well. Seems the Cotton Bowl has some tie in to QBs for the Cowboys.

Will the 2006 Cotton Bowl Classic provide the next great Dallas QB? Are either Brodie Croyle of Alabama or Cody Hodges Texas Tech destined to lead Dallas? I hope not since neither looks promising to me. Plus neither meet the criteria of being highly regarded Perhaps Rhett Bomar of Oklahoma or Vince Young of Texas will develop and end up as Cowboys in the future.

Perhaps you believe in destiny or the like. If you do, keep an eye on the Cotton Bowl and maybe you will catch a glimpse of the next great Cowboys QB.

Brodie Croyle has a nice arm, however, I am concerned if his fragile body can take the required pounding playing QB behind our Cowboy line requires?

I would hope our next QB will have a better line that what we currently have. As for Brodie Croyle I think he is a fine college QB but I have a lot of doubts about his ability to play on the next level.

DREW BLEDSOE????? If things continue to improve in the next few years who's to say that Bledsoe won't play for another 5 or six years and lead this team to many playoff years and hopefully several SB's! If the team is successful and Bledsoe is a BIG part of that success should anyone want him to leave so that a new young gun can start a new chapter????----wouldn't this make Bledsoe the next GREAT quarterback (for the Dallas Cowboys!) if this were to take place?? In todays NFL---- free agency has as much to do with creating GREAT players as drafting them! My only concern here would be that with one bad season and Bledsoe would leave the game to be with his young family and watch them growing up-------He certainly doesn't need any more money to live on since he has probably made about a hundred million dollars since he started in the NFL!

I was thinking Croyle had some possibilities earlier this season, but he collapsed late in the year and doesn't look to me like a QB that can play every week in the NFL.

He has a very good arm, but he played very scared in the pocket against the last few opponents he faced, most notably Auburn.

I would love to somehow land Vince Young. That kid is the real deal, he's mobile, he has a great arm and he makes great decisions. I'm not sure if he has declared for this draft or not, and if he has where he would go, but I'd love to see the Cowboys draft him and start grooming him to take over in 2007.

Young is returning to Texas at least that is what he has been saying. As far as how he will do in the Pro's I don't think he is ready and he still is missing some easy throws in college. I'm not saying he will be a bust but I do think he needs more playing time in the college ranks

I wish we could get Vince Young, but all odds is that he will go to the Saints.

If only the Lions and Saints could get their freakin QB situation under control, some of these guys could slide to us.

There are some nice prospects in college right now though.

Vince could stay
ND QB
Brian Bohmer from Louisville
Chris Leak, although I hear his arm maybe to weak
Michigan State QB
Rhett Bomar is from Garland, TX I think, I have not seen him play

See what we need is all of them to come out at the same time so we can be like kids in a candy store and be assured we could get one of them.

True.

But, wouldnt it be great to get him paired with an experienced coach like Sean Payton, I think he helped Quincy in 2003 (which still seems to be debatable) and Kerry Collins raved about the things he did with him in NY.

When I see Young, I dont see bust.

Heck this may be controversial, but I think Reggie McNeal is just as good, he just didnt have the talent around him.

1st and formost I want a QB who can throw the ball with some accuracy if he can run great but I don't want a running QB who has a hard time passing the ball. QB in the NFL must be a passer above all else. Look at the best QB in the league and they are all noted as Passers 1st. For those who drool over guys like Vick I'm sorry I don't see him as a great QB, he is a RB playing the QB position and that in my book will never cut it.

I would love to see Dallas make a trade for Matt Schaub of Atlanta and with the big money the Falcons have recently paid for Vick I think it is very possible that Schaub could be on the trading block.

I would say Drew Bledsoe has a very good shot at being the "next great" Dallas QB. He is only 33 and he has incredible durability. Get a couple more o-linemen and another year of jelling under their belts and he just might be the guy to lead us there.
Throw TO into that equation and next year could be incredible!!

Yeah, see I am of the mind that you can work on a guys mechanics and work on his accuracy.

You cannot teach a guy to be a winner and how to be instinctive and make plays with his feet.

Vince has the whole package man, im telling you. Check him out last year, and he is primarily a runner and couldnt make a pass to save his mom's life.

You check him out now, and he is punking defenses with that arm and his leg. If you have the Ohio State game taped, go back and watch how he made plays with arm against a very good defense with future pros on their roster.

If he can make another jump like he did from 2004 to 2005, this guy is something.

We tweaked Henson's throwing motion, I dont see why it is that big of a deal to work on Mr. Young's mechanics as well.

I wouldnt mind Matt S. either even though I have not seen him play much.

I agree that we need to beef up the line but I also know that you can't wait until hangs them up to find another QB. That has spelled disaster each time Dallas has done that. As for TO without getting into a major debate I would not touch that bone head at all. He is a major team killer and has proven it twice.

I'm a big longhorn fan and I like young but I have also seen time and again where he throws some very poor passes to wideopen players. That is in college and if your having that kind of problem in the college ranks it is 10 times harder in the Pros. Young is not ready. Young is making the right choice staying at Texas

Croyle is too frail and I dont want him. Vince Young would be nice. Brady Quinn would be great, Cutler Gradkowski would do fine.
