I'm 43 yrs. old guys: been watching the NFL since 1977. Never seen anything like it. The NFC is so stocked with good teams it's unreal: pack, frisco, gspots, dallas, philly, atlanta, detroit.........my gosh it is a gauntlet. Makes me wish we were in the AFC: would only have to go through the patriots, pitt and/or baltimore.

The longer we go without team expansion in the NFL, the better and more talented each team will continue to get in the NFL.

It's very good -- you might be right.

93 - 96 or so the Cowboys, 49ers, and Packers were all very good teams -- in fact in many "top teams of the modern era lists" I see each of those teams have an entry from that era.

am i missing something? is this the first time the NFC has had good teams or something? Where were you when the NFC won the superbowl 4 times in a row? Against a very good Buffalo team? Have you not seen the NFCE kick the crap out of itself and trying to explain to idiots why the NFCE teams are always hurting? And you're talking like baltimore is the new Detriot team or something, dont forgot some teams in the NFC still suck noodles and will continue to do so. THe lions have sucked so bad for so long everyone has been guessing for them to win just for the sake that by chance it should happen.

I just dont get your sentiment.

.......it's deeper and MORE talented than it's EVER been. Read, comprehend and LEARN. Don't attack because you don't understand.

From 1982-1997 the NFC dominated the AFC. I think the NFC is only relatively better based on how average it's been the last decade.

Good advice. I hope you'll use it the next time we clash.

Maybe I am getting old, but I dont see on "great" team in the NFL. That is why you see wild card teams winning Super Bowls. NE vs NY had to be the worse two teams to ever face off in a Super Bowl. The NFL is about ratings, and competitiveness not greatness.

What's your reasoning here? Football is a zero sum game. Relative to each other, some teams have to get worse, via FA or ageing or bad drafting, etc.

Well when you say relative to each other, thats not a comment on total talent.

Whenever there is an expansion, it dilutes the total talent pool and makes great teams lose some of their talent in the process was all I meant.

In the 80s and 90s the NFC won the SB 13 years in a row and included the 49ers and Cowboys dynasties, the 85 Bears team, and the Giants when they had a great defense with LT. That was the best I've ever seen the NFC.

This is a great point, but I would also interject how impactful greater free agency has been on diluting the overall talent pool since the implementation of the 1993 collective bargaining agreement as well.

Seriously? It's deeper and more talented than it was in the 1990s, when the Cowboys had their dynasty going on, the Packers were budding Super Bowl contenders with a young Brett Favre, and Steve Young was still leading the 49ers?

The only exception I've seen to that is when the NHL was expanding in the 90's. They added more teams, but got a lot of new talent coming in when the iron curtain came down. Jaromir Jagr, Igor Larionov, and others of that caliber came on board. Unfortunately the NFL doesn't have any comparable leagues over seas. No. NFL Europe doesn't count.

The NFC is going to be very competitive this coming season. Cowboys, Iggles, and Gnats will all have to compete hard to win the NFC East. Packers, Lions, and Bears will also have a hard go of it. Saints and Falcons have good shots. 49ers should take their division, but always be leary of the Trollhawks. Never under estimate Seattle. Cards may also compete if they can get some decent QBing. The only teams I see out are the Failskins, Vikings, Rams, Panthers, and Bucs.

I agree that more of the good teams are in the NFL right now. But the actual quality of play is better than ever before amongst those teams? No.

Explain that, please. Because I can't imagine how you're right.

Yeah but teams just don't keep getting more and more talented without expansion. There are only so many good players to go around. As you introduce talented rookies into your roster, the once productive veterans begin to decline.

I guarantee at least one of these teams will make the playoffs this year.

The NFC is once again the superior conference but it isn't a dominant conference nor will football ever have such teams again in the vanilla parity era.
