is going to be brutal. In our own division, N.Y. and Philly will be very good and playoff contenders. What can you say about Green Bay and New Orleans? Definite contenders. 9er's? Contender. Other teams that will be playoff contenders include Detroit, Atlanta, Dallas, and Chicago (once healthy). I also fully expect Carolina to be much improved. My point? We've got a LOT of work to do this off-season if we want to reach the playoffs next year. You throw in our schedule, which is going to be brutal, and we really need to improve from both a coaching and player personnel perspective. The organization has its work cut out.

If the Commanders draft a quarterback I'd say watch out for them too. They already almost beat us both times with Grossman.

not true. it was very winnable just a few years ago.

It's still winnable if we can upgrade the OL and defense. I know people around here wanna act like the Cowboys are the worst team in the league well we're not. We're an average team that could've been very good this past season had it not been for some really bone headed mistakes. Add a few solid players in free agency and in the draft and there's no doubt in my mind we can contend. I know most of you think there is no chance the Boys win the NFC next season and I just can't agree with that. The 49ers were a terrible team last season and they were a couple of knuckleheaded fumbles away from winning the NFC. The Giants who won the NFC had a late season collapse last season and most had them missing the playoffs. Anything can happen.

A 9-7 team just won the NFC. Yeah, it's still winnable. That said, there is alot of work to be done.

I agree. The balance of power in the NFL has shifted heavily to the NFC all of a sudden. I fear Dallas may have possibly wasted their best shots of success the last few seasons.

Meh.

Everyone always expects next year to be brutal because they expect all the good teams to stay and all the young teams to get good. In practice a significant percentage of both will fizzle out.

I'd guess San Francisco, Detroit, and the Giants all fail to make the playoffs next year, and not because there are too many good teams and not enough playoff spots.

EDIT: So far as conference balance goes, I think the conferences are basically even and have been since '07 or so. The AFC is much more consistent and the NFC much more volatile, but I see little reason to think that either is stronger relative to the other than 5 years ago, or likely to be so in the near future.

This is a bold prediction. And I don't see a reason why all 3 of them don't make the playoffs again. I think the Giants will get a RB, the Niners will get a WR, and the Lions will get a RB.

Dude, we're the Cowboys. We suck! Just ask ufcrules1, bbgun, dboy214, and all the other realists and they will tell you. Don't even bother wondering an outcome. It will be brutal and disgusting. We're done before even getting started. Just let it go. In fact, please let this be your last post in here.

Everyone thinks the AFC is all that. So why is it that the NFC has won the last 3 of 4 Super Bowls? Oh never mind. The AFC is just sooo good. How foolish of me. :laugh2:

the lions have best and leshoure coming back. if they upgrade the o line and their defensive backs then i think they're going to be really strong

Well, quite frankly we did suck really bad last year. Who can deny that? Doesn't mean we have to suck in 2012 though. There is a lot to look forward to this coming year. Sean Lee/Bruce Carter, Demarco Murray, Tyron Smith, improved defense, improved offensive line, etc. It is true that the NFC is going to be very tough this year, the OP is exactly right and I'm not sure how or why anyone would deny that. The Eagles and Giants will certainly be tough in our own division and Washington has a very good defense. If they get a QB and WR or 2, they will be tough as well.

that's not the point. you said the nfc is always difficult to win. relatively speaking this past season was more difficult than the previous 6-7 years. we had an opportunity to win while the nfc was down for many years but failed. it will be more difficult now with more quality teams in the conference. the lions, niners, saints, falcons were not formidable teams a few years ago.

We were gifted a relatively easy division this year and had we not imploded at home against the Giants, we would have won it all...... with a mediocre record. It doesn't get much easier than that.

The Giants aren't going to be as good as they were this year, and they weren't good this year. NO is going to lose pieces. GB is going to lose pieces. Alex Smith and the 9ers are going to come down to earth.

Philly will be better. Carolina will be better if they can add some guys on defense.

The NFC isn't a scary place imo.

Maybe. On the other hand they have a bunch of very young players who are only going to get better in the future:
  • JPP
  • Cruz
  • Jacquian Williams
Young players playing great early in there careers can often be a barometer for future success. All three of those guys are only going to get better and they are all very good today.

When I am talking about what they get, I am talking about the draft.

Otherwise they will all build those obvious positions that every team always needs.
