The NFL has changed tackle football forever this year

If they actually enforce this on RBs, Emmitt Smith will be the happiest person on earth. His record will never come close to being broken. Running the ball will become even less of a factor and will never have a huge resurgence. Average yards per carry will go down significantly and 1000 yard seasons will become a think of the past.

Emmitt never used his helmet as a battering ram, either. So there's that. And, for the record, Emmitt's record will never be broken anyway. RBs don't last that long in the league and the carries are split between at least two backs on every team. Emmitt was never substituted out due to scheme. If he wasn't on the field, he was inured. You'll never see that in the NFL again.

If Zeke can't lower his head, than what good is having him on the team?

How can a running back possibly run the football without lowering his head to brace for contact?

This would end football for good in my world.
If you haven't seen Zeke run without lowering his head, you either haven't been paying attention, are willfully ignorant, or are just looking for a reason to whine like a *****. Most of Zeke's biggest highlights don't show him lowering his head. Grow up.

The rule also specifically states that a player can't lower his head to initiate contact. It says nothing of lowering his head to AVOID contact.

The solution for the violence isn't rule changes. Its better tackling technique ,starting at pop warner...better running technique. No need to change or add to the rule book. At that point if the game is too violent, DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN IT. Parents, not coaches or schools need to make that choice. Changing the rules for the parents sake is not the answer. When you sign up...you sign waivers of responsibility...because duh...ITS A VIOLENT GAME!! Lawyers don't belong near the sport.

And many parents are now withholding their kids. I won't let my kids play. As such the NFL is rightly concerned about their labor pool.

And hoping that all coaches will teach better technique isn't a plan. It's delusional. Leadership comes from the top and the NFL is leading the way.

I can easily picture the video replays by the officials doubling and maybe even more than that. The game will be slowed down and fans will be predictably upset with the delays and the controversies. The only way to effectively eliminate excessive injuries in football might be to switch to the flag version. Yuck!

WHAT LEADERSHIP? Goddell? lol..OK mate...if you say so. The NFL shouldn't behave as a Nanny state. Delusional is actually believing the NFL is capable of any type of leadership FROM THE TOP. It starts at pop warner and pee wee league. You cant jam a new rule down the throats of the players, fans overnight like flipping a switch...It has to start with the coaching and how tackling is taught, over the long haul..IT TAKES YEARS TO PROPERLY DO THIS.This is a knee jerk reaction to satisfy certain groups of folks that I can't mention.

It is probably for the best. I spoke with Lance Briggs last year and I asked him about CTE. Dude told me sometimes he gets out of bed and starts walking and will forget where he is going and why he got up. Said it will take him a few seconds to remember what he was doing. It really changed my opinion on the whole head-collision issue. I will miss the old physicality but these rule changes are necessary.
I agree. I've had 6 concussions from my highschool playing days and snowboarding. I have to write notes to myself in every room to remind myself of what needs to be done. I'll get in the car to drive to the post office and end up at my supply company lol (happened today). Luckily I did need something there as well. It's not fun. And I'm young. I pray it doesn't REALLY catch up to me the older I get.

You should calm down.

a) that is an unreadable smear of text.
b) repeatedly using caps does not have a positive effect in presenting your case.

These types of rules are made by the owners as a whole. This is about the competition committee more than Goodell but hey you can direct that anger at Stephen Jones who is on said committee.

And who said anything about it changing overnight. Nevertheless all other football organizations key off the top dog NFL more than anywhere else.

This is a serious issue for the NFL. They are facing a multibillion dollar lawsuit and know their defense is tenuous. Their labor pool is in jeopardy with less kids developing year to year, and there is the moral issue of taking care of one's workers.

I'm not a fan of the NFL trust in the least but I support this move wholeheartedly. People such as yourself freaking out over this strike me as giving in to baseless unmanifested fear.

Interesting. Will that be a pure judgement call? If so, seems like a lot of grey for a bang bang play.
I won't disagree with that. there's going to be a rough period for this rule and I can see it being tweaked, in time. There was a remark earlier in the thread opining that they'd like to see the refs be less of a factor in the game, and I agree. I'll also contend that they will be less of a factor once players learn to tackle properly. This isn't going to be effective overnight, by any stretch of the imagination.

More caps I see. . . .

The NFL is not forcing you to do anything with yourself or your kids. They have a right to run their business how they want too as long as it is within the law.

Anywho, the mob doesn't lead. Quite the contrary actually.

Just trying to get you to think logically. Takes years to properly change this..much teaching. Not a rich dude sitting in a cubicle. I get it..they want safety..who doesn't? Is this the answer?

You have to start somewhere. The NFL is starting here. It very well may take years for players to stop throwing head first but I have no problem with them outlawing it. It's a stupidly dangerous tactic.

Should we strike the rushing records of Jim Brown,Walter Payton and Earl Campbell from the NFL ledgers? Or maybe an asterisk would make it ok? I am passionate about playing the game the way it was intended. Its not for the faint of heart.Injury is always going to be part of it unless tackling is done away with.

If it means potentially fewer players getting their spines snapped on national television, I think I'll wait one season before making judgement.

I actually think most players already lead with the shoulder anyway. They teach you to tackle with your head up from the start, players just forget as they get stronger.

Because spines being snapped is a prevalent thing?

:lmao2:I'm triggered. Me?

Exactly what in my writing has indicated a tone of anger. I think you are making the mistake in thinking that because you are worked up that I am worked up too.

Only one of us is writing smears of text with caps and such which actually does indicate a triggered individual. You can call me anal if it makes you feel better but I much prefer my way to the lack of self control that you have on display.
