The Number 1 Off Season Need By Far

Is a Legit NFL Center. It all starts with the Center - he makes the blitz calls and line adjustments -he is the linchpin. We had two superb ones here over the last 10 plus years or so - Stepnoski and Ray Donaldson , who went to a Pro Bowl for us. Then we got sloppy -Clay Shiver, Gennero DiNapoli, etc now Gurode and Al Johnson.

This has to stop, Al Johnson was a bad pick by BP and Co. no two ways about it - as was Rogers & Pettiti. When you miss like that you set yourself up for a huge failure -drafting is everything and as of now Parcells/Co./JerryJones/Ron Wolf's advice are nothing overly great, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

We need to admit right now that neither Johnson or Pettiti can start next season and we need to rectify it ASAP thru Free Agency.

Then and only then can we think about playoff football.

I have no faith in the OL coach. I see room for improvement, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend there isn't some talent on the OL that needs to gel and play better.

I think OT is a much bigger need. Johnson did not play as badly as Pettiti. Pettiti is a tough guy, but I think he has a better chance of becoming a good guard if he can get stronger. His feet don't look quick enough to deal with edge rushers.

Agreed! ...and that center will hopefully be a proven veteran. Get the T and LB in the draft.

I really hope that when Im older I dont have quite as much inertia as a lot seem to have.

Offensive tackle in my opninion has to be the highest priority. Even with Dat gone Fowler, Shanle, and even maybe Burnett fill that void moreso than Tucker/Pettiti.

After Flozell we have nada.

Tackle being highest priority does not mean it has to be first round. Quick name the last OLineman the Cowboys took in round one and what year

Pettiti wasn't bad pick at all in 6/7th round. That late in the draft all we should hope for is he make the team & perhaps become decent backup. Instead, cause of screw drafting Rogers, we forced Pettiti into a position he could not perform--certainly no for a whole season. Even #1 OT picks don't always become starters infirst year, although Cowboy fans have come to expect that in last ten years or so. Pettiti has the talent & now has the experience to become a pretty good backup & we should be happy with that.

Agree Johnson in his second year hasn't performed as hoped, but wondering if we not expecting too much from him too soon. Maybe he also needs a 3rd year to become the center we hope. After all it took 3 years for Bradie James; same goes for Giants DE Osimonyhou (sorry about sp) & he's now going to pro bowl. Also while we are want Cowboys to sign Bentley, doubt NO would be stupid enough not to franchise him and even if they don't how much would he cost. Might be better option to sign the 35 year old Malwae away from the Jets just for 1 last year (saw rumor he coming off an injury and Jets hope sign him up for just 1 more year at cheap price). Malwae might agree to sign instead with us for 1 year for better offer. Of course in accepting contract with us to start for us for only 1 year, he understands we want him to tutor Johnson in all aspects of center job he has learned over the years while Johnson serves as his backup. In other words we bringing in special 1 man tutor just for Johnson; maybe we could also include Gurode in the deal if we decide Gurode has potential despite his mental failings. All 3 would have agree to the deal & incentives could even be included if it works out well for us. I know it sounds like a wild idea but at least we trying salvage 1 or 2 draft picks and lots of cap money which we could use elsewhere. And anyway, many of us doubting how good our OL coaching is.
