I always thought Colombo was decent but overrated by Dallas fans. Based on Free's 2009 play at RT, I thought Free should have been given the opportunity to challenge Colombo at RT before 2009. Perhaps, the Cowboys could have given Colombo's last contract to the younger player (Doug Free). That could have saved the front office from way overpaying Free. That contract is an albatross now, but it certainly isn't alone.

Nevertheless, Free continues to look terrible; and he acts like he doesn't want to make contact and be physical. Honestly, he's playing pathetic; and he should be benched. At least, Colombo would maul you even if he wasn't very good in space.

I thought Free should be able to slide back to RT and do a good job, and the early returns are horrific if you are a Dallas fan.

I would definitely look at replacing Free with Parnell after this season...

Why would you do that? Free would even be worst at left tackle. Best bet is to bench Free and put Parnell in there for him.

Free sucking has nothing to do with gelling.

Sorry.

I've been an avid supporter of Free, but right now, he needs to be benched.

It is incredibly obvious that he has become complacent since he got his payday.

If I am Jason Garrett, I am starting Parnell with the 1's in practice all week, then making sure Doug Free hears me telling Callahan to scour the other 31 teams' practice squads for potential OT depth.
here's the thing, i've read reports that he's one of the hardest workers on the team. i don't think it's about effort, i just think the guys stinks. he somehow lucked into a jackpot contract that will keep him in the starting role. lol at the thought of jerry allowing jason to bench him.

Now here is the question...

Would you trade Doug Free and a 6th round draft pick for 2 Doug Frees, just to get rid of Doug Free?

What I think happened was this: Free got his contract after starting 22 games, a relatively small sample size. Teams were able to really scrutinize him on film, and saw his weaknesses in hand play and anchor strength. Since that time, teams have played him differently, and exposed those weaknesses.

Simple as that. Free is who he is, he's not improving his anchor strength after being in NFL weight training programs for 6 years. I hate to say it, but Parnell's anchor strength, from what I have seen in preseason action, isn't very good either. The Cowboys are going to sink or swim with Free, and they need to make some accomodations to keep him from being a complete turnstile on the edge, such as chipping the LDE, using a TE to double team, etc.

It also doesn't help that Bernadeau has been completely brutal as well.

OL typically take longer to gel. Now is not the time to threw new player in there. What Dallas needs to start doing is call for more screen plays.

Free's problem isn't "gelling." It's technique and physical limitations.

I am almost to the point of agreeing on the move of Cook to RT and have Costa back at center.

That is how bad Free is looking.

But give Parnell a try first- PLEASE!!!

Yeah, Free is looking like hot garbage out there. He committed more penalties than I care to count and is just playing really dumb football. But you know what they will say... 'Doug looks like the best option in practice and gets the majority of the 1st team reps.' Not a direct quote, but it's the kind of crap they say - if they say anything.

Unfortunately not even smith has played well. He is king turd on dookie mountain.

His play is often overlooked because the other 4 positions are just so horrible.

So who is the blocking TE now that MB is gone?

I don't like Free at all. His blocking is bad and his number of penalties is inexcusable.

But, it is possible that Parnell is even worse.

Don't know that I want to gamble so easily on Romo's life and health.
