I'm glad you said let it play out because I predicted Romo would be a nothing 5 years ago, and well, I'm not so ignorant after all, meanwhile, the guys that argued with me, well... Let's just say, to be nice, they are wrong 5 years later.

Romo has been brilliant considering he's had to carry the team by himself for five years with no run game, no pass protection, and no defense. TomBrady would have win half as many games on this team.

But let's not do another Romo thread here.

If you are referring to the 2012 Cowboy team that actually took the field, you would be WAY off.

If you're referring to the team that was going into training camp, it's a bit more debateable.

Barring injury, I would bet all of these players are better in 2013 than in 2012.
You'll notice it is most of Dallas' best players.

Sean Lee...out all year..no brainer
Dez Bryant...broke through the 2nd half of the season
DeMarcus Ware...hurt most of the season, so at least slightly better
DeMarco Murray...missed a ton of time
Bruce Carter...missed 1/2 season and was rising fast
Jay Ratliff...missed whole season, so easy one
Barry Church...missed entire season
Tyron Smith...for sure will be better
Dwayne Harris..was on the rise by year end
Brian Price...late acquistion with huge upside..hard to contribute less, so he makes this list
Morris Claiborne...was a rookie; big upside
Tyrone Crawford...was a rookie
James Hanna...was a rookie..showed promise
Kyle Wilber...rookie..marginal to big improvement; depends on role
Matt Johnson..rookie and out all year, so can't be worse; big upside
Cole Beasely..rookie...can't contribute much less
Jeremy Parnell...slightly better; was just getting playing time
Berny and Livings...can't be worse..lol
Costa...either as backup or starter, will be better than injured all year

Plus, the strengths of the draft match Dallas' needs.
So very well could improve at
Safety,
Guard,
DT depth
maybe WR depth.

Guys that will be about the same.
Carr...he's good. I guess he could be better, but I'll put him as the same
Austin...don't trust him, but I'll say flat
Romo..not on same page with WRs until 2nd and also prob less ints...so maybe better.
Hatcher
Spencer...hard to improve much from last year
Free..if he's there

Decline?
Witten...may decline slightly off a stellar year
Note: If Ware had had a great year, I would put him on the decline list, but the dude was so hurt I think he'll he better or at least as good as in 2012.

It looks like what Dallas put out on the field for most the year compared to right now is not very comparable overall...barring several season-ending injuries to top players.
This was nicely done. Better than my OP? I think so.

We went through a slew of them.

Martellus Bennett, Roy Williams, Terrell Owens, Pacman Jones, Tank Johnson, Roy OU....even Marion Barber was strange, kind of like Patrick Crayton (who I liked). The only knucklehead left really is Dez, and he seems to be coming around. (Can you imagine Dez if TO was still around....sheesh.)

Plus, Garrett rid the roster of the severely declining players like Brooking, James, Columbo, Davis, Gurode, Newman, Barber, etc.

Some of those guys you mentioned were brought to the team when JG was in control of the offense though. Some of them weren't idiots either. Now we're just left with guys who drive drunk put people's lives in danger like Brent and Ratliff.. is that really any better?

The big problem before JG became head coach was the sloppy play, the stupid penalties and mistakes, etc.. and we're still seeing that now. Really don't know why we expected much of a change, as I said, JG was controlling the offense before he took over as HC anyway. This coming season i'd like to see that baloney go away for JG to show he can actually lead a team to postseason greatness.

Also, this team around Romo has not been garbage for 5 years like you so badly want to believe. We've had talent.. there's not even a question about that.

Talent? Yes. The needed talent at the line of scrimmage? Not by a long shot.

Lots of shiny, talented toys, and no way to use them because we've had a DII college offensive line.

Pretty much spot-on analysis.

I swear I'm not sure what team some of our members are watching.

Yea.. before JG took over as HC, we had guys who complained about wanting the ball more.

Now we just have guys who go out, get wasted and kill people and get arrested for DUI's.

Much better now.. thanks JG.
