This Oline is a problem and it's not Free, Smith, or Costa. Alot of people like to beat on Free for having two non great games. The thing with Free is Nagy. He has to keep helping Nagy so much that Free isn't allowed to be able to swing around when a player is coming of the edge lined out wide. Last year Free had Koiser next to him and played great because he was allowed to be able to swing. He didn't have to help Koiser. Now Koiser is on the right side helping Smith and SMith has played great so far.

Nagy and Costa aren't starting caliper OL in the NFL, atleast not right now and I don't think they will be next year either. Costa nd Nagy do not have any NFL strength, Nagy is so weak and inexperenced Dallas brought in Dockery for game 2, which also hurt Free due to playing next to a player he doesn't know. The OL needs to gel and know one another. Switching out OGs and having under powerful LG and Center is hurting this team.

I didn't have a prob;em with letting Guorde and Davis go, I had a problem relying on Costa and Nagy. I was ok with releaseing our 2011 starting center and OG but only if they were going to bereplaced by younger starting free agents. Atleast one would have helped. Justin Blalock or Davin Joseph would be alot better for this team right now than Nagy is, but we missed out and didn't even try.

Free is fine, he just has no help and can't play one on one with a edge rusher due to alays having to help Nagy. I know it is a long ways away form the offseason but Jerry will have to make OG and Center and focus early in the 2012 draft. Draft a OG and Center early, guys with NFL strength and smarts. Keep Koiser for one more year and let Arkin and Nagy fight to push Koiser out and take his spot.

3 games into their rookie season is not a career. I'm sure more competition will be brought in over time but given the fact these kids are rookies with no off season they are not playing as poorly as some seem to think. Clearly they are not playing like vets but they are not vets

I like the youth movement on the Line. give them a chance to grow for peetes sake.

I never said they were playing poorly, Nagy is the only rookie on the OL besides Smith and I said Smith is playing good. I also said right now, Nagy might turn into something but he needs a few years. Costa, I just don't see it. Get pushed easily, doesn't have any push in the run game. I said this before the season, Costa is what he is, a NFL backup Center.

I seesome things in Nagy, I like Nagy and I like Arkin but both needs time, more than one season and one offseason. They both needs a few years to get the strength and technique. One will be a starter in 2 years, and a good starter at that. Both can also play Center, they both did it in college.

I see Arkin and Nagy on this team for a while, one being a swing backup and one day potential starter and one being a starter. Bit this team doesn't have time to wait 3-4 years to have them both become a good NFL starting player. This team needs starting caliper players on the OL now, just can;t do anything else till after the season.

There have been several sources who have said that Costa (outside of the early snaps) has played well... Including couchscout.

I like the youth movement too, and I said in my post. I want to draft another OG and Center early, ones that are startig caliper day one. That is a youth movement. I said that I want to give them time, just this team doesn't have time right now. I said Nagy and Arkin will be starters one day, just not soon enough. Its just going to take a few years for Nagy and Arkin to be true starting caliper OGs and Costa never will be.

and there have been several even before the snaps that has said he has played awful. Have you watched him in the run game. Absolute no push.

he is not saying DON'T give them a chance. What he is saying is the strength to play those positions is earned over time. Time in the weight room, time in the film room, time on the practice field. There are reasons OL go undrafted or get drafted in later rounds. And a lot of it is due to physical limitations. In todays NFL...where players on defense are bigger, faster, and stronger than ever....you are not going to move mountains with 22 year old late round/undrafted players that have been in a NFL weight training program for 2 months.

Anyone who thinks this OL is playing great is blind and needs to take off the cowboy colored glasses. This OL is worse than last years except at RT. Last year the OL got beat up by fans all year due to the money they were making. Now put some young guys in there and "it's ok, give them a chance, they are young, it's ok that we can't get a push up the middle in the run game, its ok Nagy gets pushed on his ***, it's ok Costa can't snap a ball right, their young." all excuses to me.

Here's couchscout's quote...

"Costa - Saved this one for last because it's sure to be the most controversal one. Costa is a pretty dang good center. I've watched the game 4 times now, once live, once on my DVR at home, and twice I've watched the all-22 film. Only twice in the game did a guy Costa was blocking even touch a player with the ball, and only once did he have any influence on the tackle. Costa was single blocking Coefield a lot, and blowing him off the ball with consistency. His pass blocking was solid, and his technique was sound. He completely whiffed on his block 3 times by my count, but it had no effect on the play on any occasion. It'll be very interesting to see how he plays this week, for two reasons. One, the obvious, he's gonna have to block Suh and Corey Willams, by far the best DT's he will have faced this season. Two, he's been covered by NT's every game this season, this will be the first game where he will be asked to release to the second level and hit moving targets. How he adjust to hitting guys in space will go a long long way toward determining how long he wears a star on his helmet. Obviously, the snap issue has to get worked out. With this being the NFL, it doesn't matter if it was the defense calling out the snap count, or something else, it has to get fixed. That's the nature of this game, the team isn't gonna wait on you for 5 games to figure it out. But if you're wondering why he was even allowed on the bus after nearly costing us the game 4 times in one night, it's because he's actually a dang good center. He could play for a long time in the league simply based on the fact that he can single block NT's with consistency. "

I have you have something equally strong to support your premise.

this is a classic case of damned if you do. damned if you don't. Everyone was on groude nad davis and hated them. now they are gone and eveyrone says we shouldn't have let them go.

at some point you have to move on. you say FA is hte answer? well davis was a FA and didn't solve the problem and certainly under delivered and under whelmed in his stay here.

you take your lumps. you have to. at some point you have to switch to youth and take your lumps, let them learn and move forward.

with that said, which FAs did you have in mind? tell us how you would fit it under the cap? its easily said, not easily done. arm chair GMs are abound.

Costa is in his 2nd year 1st year starting while he is not a rookie he is a very young player. You may be right but I don't think it carzy to make some absolute statement on a player who have played 3 games together that is it.

How long will it take for Nagy or Arkin you nor I know that.

Great? no, close to what I was expecting yes, they have been together 3 games no off season no conditioning. Pretty much thrown to the wolves and despite the fact we have faced 3 pretty good defenensive teams and they have helped us to 2-1. There is a lot of improvement that needs to be done but this is not a vet line and these guys will need time and experiance.

I think the oline just needs some time to gel. I mean we have two rookies who and a second year player starting.

Granted they aren't probably ever going to play perfect this year as Nagy and even Costa can use some more body work, but that said. I think we are looking at 80% our starting oline for the next six years. I think it's going to be a good one too.

You really think this oline is worse than last year? I think time makes the heart grow fonder and that is why your memory is short. Columbo might as well been Tom Landry's statue because he was brutal last year, Davis whiffed more than Mark Reynolds and how can we forget the immortal Alex Barron. You really want to go back to those days? Give this group a chance to gel, if they aren't better by the next quarter of games than you can begin to worry....until than I think we all need to chill.

MichaelWinicki;4147997 said:

Bottom line, the middle of this OL is an epic fail. Yeah, maybe these guys develop into decent starters someday, but that's only a "maybe" and the sort of thing a smart GM doesn't waste a season to find out. To put a team with a closing window out there like this is a ridiculous gamble with very poor odds.

I did say how long it should take form Nagy and Arkin, three years.
but in those three years, draft a starting OG and Center. Keep developing Arkin and Nagy, and have them push Koiser next year.
I think I said this in my orignail post, if you read it all.

I also said in preseason that Costa doesn't have it. I haven't seen anything in preseason or so far this season that shows that he does.

I agree 100%.

We can't have it all. These guys need time to mature. Arkin will be in the mix also.

The OL will solidify. It takes time.

For years Jerry Jones has gone the way of expensive vet's on the OL. It hasn't worked. We need to give the young guys a chance to work it in.

again people should red everting I wirte and not one sentence.
I said this OL is worse except at RT. LT is the same, LG is worse, Center is worse, RG is the same or alittle better and RT is better. Two psots the same, two spots worse, one spot better. Koiser may be better than Davis was last year but Nagy is alot worse than Davis and Costa si alot worse than Guorde. SO yes this OL is worse. IF they aren't worse then they aren't any better and thats still pretty bad.

PLease read my entire post. Where did I say I wanted to sign over the hill high paying players. Joesph and Balalock are both 27 and no I'm saying next year to draft early a new OG and Center. Draft players that are day one ready.
