The only FA position that I feel for sure that we will

address in the coming week or two is back-up QB.

Not only is it obvious to the fans, but JJ has made several remarks regarding Romo's back-up as well.

Finally, between addressing the DL, ILB, or S positions in FA, it seems we need to address at least one of these defensive positions before the draft.

I think the biggest uncertainties would be at ILB and S, esp if R Williams is cut, Davis is not re-signed, and if Z Thomas, Burnett, and Polk are gone.

I would guess that we would try to get 1 ILB in FA, and we would draft a Safety high in April to complement Hamlin.

I really don't think JJ is going to spend this off-season, other than to extend D Ware, so I'd say 2-3 lower-tier FA acquisitions is about right.

Did you have any free-agents in mind teamed with a mock draft? Give me something to criticize! Your foreign accent won't help you here...your going to have to step out a little further out on that ledge to spark conversation in this forum. :wink2:

Looking at the FA safeties we would be better off with selecting one in the draft than to overpay for what is out there.

I'm American, by the way.

I've got some ideas on a mock draft. I'll post one pretty soon. But I think at 51 we could take a Safety like P Chung from Oregon.

As for FAs, at QB there are a variety of candidates who have been discussed. Simms, Losman, Boller, etc.

For the ILB position, I'm pretty sure it won't be R Lewis or B Scott. And I think Burnett finds a lot more money elsewhere.

I thought Farrior was a FA. Though he's old, he may be decent for a year or so.

I think you are absolutely right.

I can't see us paying big bucks for another FA Safety after we just paid big bucks for Hamlin.

Plus, in the Secondary we've got big bucks tied up in Newman, plus a top pick in Jenkins.

I guess via process of elimination, I think we end up getting an ILB in FA.

As for the DL, I this is Hatcher's big chance. And we'll pick up another DL or two in the Draft.

2nd William Moore SS - Because Malcolm Jenkins is now being considered more of a Safety prospect, William may fall this far.
3rd Dorell Scott DT - could be groomed behind Ratliff
4th Jason Phillips ILB - due to other ILB prospect available, he might fall this far.

Just a thought...

Several guys I would like include

Chung at Safety in Round 2

J Gilbert at DE to replace Canty in Round 3

and with one of our 4th or 5th rounders, I'd have interest in Sammie Hill at DT/NT. If not Hill, then maybe later in the draft T Taylor from Michigan to play some downs at NT.

Not a big fan of Chung..If you wanna go safety then Sean Smith or Delmas is our best bet..getting a DE would be a reach in the 3rd since Hatcher could step in..I'd look at DE around round 4(our 4th). Hopefully a guy like Brinkley is still there with the Lions 4th rounder. Getting a NT like Taylor or Hill would be ideal in the 5th with Joe Burnett in the 5th also

i'd be surprised if we didn't go after some ILB types - i doubt we will see the splashy signing there but some lower level guys who contribute on ST ... might be a mutual interest as, at this point, we just have Bradie and Barbie there.

Ya Terence Taylor for depth at the NT position. Joe Burnett is a CB who was pretty impressive today at the combine(ran a 4.47)..can also return punts extremely well.

Jarron Gilbert will likely be off the board by then, but he looks like has a good motor. I wouldn't be entirely disappointed by that pick. But another DT that could be converted to a 3-4 DE is Ricky Jean-Francois of LSU. He's a junior that could be developed and should still be available in the late 4th to early 5th. I recognize that with the loss of Cantly this may be a pressing need, but then again, I like our current backups behind Canty more than I like our backups at our other positions of need, like SS, DT, and ILB.

Considering we have very little money to spend while negotiating with DWare, I'll be surprised if we sign a QB.

Signing a QB would mean we already realize Bollinger was a mistake and he sucks...we'd have to find a guy who's clearly better but wouldn't cost much more...unlikely.

I think it's a definite that we draft a QB this year on day 2 to be our #3. I think Bollinger is either our #2 or he gets released.

Everyone keeps saying we will package draft picks because we don't have that many open spots on the roster...probably true...but if we allow most of our FA's to test the waters, it's also possible that most of them sign elsewhere for more than they're worth...then we may find ourselves using most of our draft picks on replacements.

I beg to differ on this.

I think the one place where JJ will spend a little money is for a capable replacement for Romo via FA.

And we draft a QB this year as well.

I don't think Bollinger lasts.

I bet Burnett moves up a little on draft boards cause of a good combine and the fact that he can also return punts. Being able to do more than one thing is golden in the NFL.
