The only hype I will buy

I’ve learned a long time ago not to buy into what they’re selling.

This FO doesn’t know how to build a championship roster.

It’s really simple as that.
2009 was the year it brickslapped me in the face, that these guys were not capable of building a playoff roster.

I’m already worn out just hearing “Schotty” all the time.

“I’m sick of me already. I have Schott-lash. Schott-lash. Schott-lash. Schott-lash”

I'm gonna put this in a base relationship form.

The Cowboys are like an old girlfriend to me. When we were young she was hot, smokin hot! We sometimes had fights and she hurt me but most of the time we made love and were in love. It was a hot time! (60's - mid 80's).

Then she got kinda fat and hatefully self-conscious and we drifted apart (mid to late 80's). I still thought of her and missed her and would see her from time to time but there was no spark and then suddenly we ran into each other at the gym ... both of us in good shape and looking good (OK ... I had a bit of a beer gut). We went out and things were just torrid.

It was so hot for a while that we couldn't get enough of each other (early 90's). Then she got on heroin (Jerry fired Jimmy). She was still hot but you could see that train was runnin off the tracks . . . and it did. She crashed and burned and just pizzed me off (2000-2006)!

We still see each other, occasionally go out and have a good time (2007, 20014, 2016, 2021-2023) but the flame is barely a spark. I know she can still be fine, I still have a place in my heart for her, but her old junkie (Jerrah) still comes around trying to screw her up. She just can't seem to get off his chit!

I still have my hope, I'll never love another, but sometimes sadness overcomes me! She must prove herself !

And that damn pusher man and his junkie son need to git out of the picture!

acknowledging the changes for the better
While I agree that we should acknowledge changes for the better, how exactly do anyone know it’s better? Personally game time is the only way to determine this. Will this team actually be a team or will it one again fall apart as it has done for better part of a quarter century.

If we’ve learned anything in the last three decades about the Jones family running the Dallas Cowboys it is this: The hype machine never stops grinding and the sales booth is always open. Despite three decades of under-performing when it matters most on the field, the shameless marketing of “America’s Team” never takes a break.

Here we are in June, a month away from training camp and we are already being PR-pummeled with the sales pitch that a first time head coach the Jones boys call “Schotty” is “turning this thing around” with his backward visor while forging “bromances” with every single player. I want Schotty to win but please…

Let me make it clear: I will be thrilled if this team is really good this year. My problem is acting like they’ve already done something before they’ve even put on the pads. The only hype I will buy from this organization will be on the scoreboard in games that matter.

For those of you buying in right now I completely support your enthusiasm and your right to express it on this forum. If you are excited by what you see and hear now, I support your enthusiasm.

Conversely, I hope that my reluctance to buy before I’ve seen results will also be seen as my right. “I will believe it when it happens” has not only been my mantra for years, it is my way of saying I love the Cowboys without buying what our shameless owner and his entitled son are selling.

The only hype these days I’m buying will be results…on the field…in games that matter.
I think all 32 teams are hyping their teams at this time of year. It’s a business and the more interest a team can generate the more money they make.

True, on the field is the only way to see. I been saying that.
However, when you look at things that have been done, and are being done. It looks to be better.
Especially compared to last year at this time.

I disregard the lip service from the FO. We will get that regardless. I like what the players are saying though. They are buying into it. And that is a key factor.
Yes, fans will say, same old same old. They have to say that. But it is still great to see.
But if the players are buying into it, and it shows in practice. It begins there and can translate to being better on the field.

I can't wait for training camp because that's gonna be the first sign of how this team is going to go.

As Mike Brady taught a generation of children; " Caveat Emptor"

Or

As Ronaldus Magnus once said; "doveryai, no proveryai".....trust, but with verification.

You are a glass half full person, I’m a glass half empty person. Time will tell with of us is right, unless the Cowboys really want to piss us off and split the difference.

Does Jerry/Stephen allow Brian Schottenheimer to put his prints on the team or does Jerry and son take over. That's always the main question for me going into a new season with a new coach.

I doubt any coach will be allowed that. All coaches will need to figure out how to succeed within the rubric framework Jerry has imposed.

This is true. But they've had stretches where they've done badly and lost more than they won too.

One thing you can give Jerral Wayne credit for. His teams do win. But he needs a championship soon, like in 2025-2027.

I mean, the foundational pieces are there for 25-26, maybe 27.

But, uh, aside from what all the redundant, predictably miserable Negative Nelly's say, this team is set up to compete.

“how Jerry single handedly created the dynasty that won three championships”…

Art, it grinds my gears when Jerry acts like HE personally made “America’s Team”. He BOUGHT America’s Team that had already won 20 playoff games, 5 NFC championships and 2 SBs.

No question Jerry deserves some credit for those 3 SBs of the 90s. But like you said, it starts with hiring Jimmy Johnson and letting him run the team.

Jerry didn’t but the Browns. He bought an already accomplished organization and used his gifts as a businessman to make it a bullet-proof financial juggernaught.
I agree 100%!! It boggles the mind that Jerry wasn't satisfied with winning championships where he shared the credit for success.

Agreed. Hype is a yearly past time of these Cowboys. You know Jerry is lying when his lips are moving.

I don’t think it can work with the current structure of owner and GM as one guy. The GM role is needed above all to serve as firewall between the day to day operations of the org and ownership. We don’t have that with the cowboys so the owner being more involved in day to day ops is how you end up with players going over the head of the coaches
It can’t, but that’s “Jerry’s way” and what he wants to do.

It’s been way more than proven that it won’t work.

He thinks he can pull off something that no other sports franchise ever has because he thinks he is better and smarter than anyone else.

Don’t like it? Too bad. He has already told us that.
