The HC that he hires MUST be given the authority to set the overall organization’s philosophy. From McClay on down. Eat, crap, and breathe that philosophy. The Cowboys are a modern team now with all tools to succeed. They just need a leader of men now.

And he’s 44 years old, not 60 something like most of the guys on the above list. He’s up and coming instead of an older guy who doesn’t need this to establish his name.

The right head coach could take over with the coordinators that are in place and the current talent level and win.
Jerry's still willing to pay for talent on the field and good coordinators. It's his weakness and delusion that Garrett is some long lost son that has destroyed the integrity and competitiveness of the Cowboys.

The hard part about getting a great coach now is whether or not Jerry agrees in writing to allow his HC to be in total control of the locker room and Will McClay in control of personnel.

I love this post and its all true, but we have 3 decades of evidence how Jerry operates. Best case is he hires a strong hc w winning track record and gives him some power, like w Parcells. And if that happens, then we already know what will happen next. Jerry will watch that coach start to transform the culture and then once things are looking up, Jerry will get rid of him out of jealousy and the cycle will continue. The new hc must have last word in football matters written in his contract like Jimmy or we are in for more of the same.

There is no way. Mike Lynn is dead and Jimmy is pushing 80. Jerry hadn't figured out you cant out talent the league yet and prop up a JV coaching staff and FO. That is the only way Jerry ball works.

I suspect JJ and the Jones family run their oil and gas, as well as real estate ventures, in a much more businesslike (dare I say, ruthless) manner. Certainly, more bottomline focused than the way they run the football team. And, therein is the rub. The fact that the football operations make money hand over fist really dampens the fact that the football team has generally been a huge disappointment.

I suspect that Jones looks at the football operations as "family" and not just a business. I am sure ther are other owners that share similar feelings, but none to the extent of Jones.

We often poke fun of Al Davis and make comparisons with JJ. One area they were much different was Al's relentless pursuit of a title. He had no qualms with firing the entire FO and moving the team if it didn't meet his expectations. You can easily argue Al didn't go about it the right way, but he was a much more accountable owner than Jerry (though, no less meddlesome).
