The player who has to step up if our defense is to improve

Him and that Terence Newman fellow. They need to step it up or they're getting replaced!

Bradie James. This supposed leader of the defense hasnt shown up for a game in weeks. He is not very good in pass coverage, but even worse has been playing poorly in run support as well. Ware is doing his part, but the "leader" of this defense isnt doing his.

What is poor Jerry jones to do, the old philosophy was to never pay linebackers or kickers top dollar because they were a dime a dozen, the change in philosophy has not proven to win Jones' confidence that it should be any different.

In a 4-3 defense the big money tends to go to the front 4 guys in a 3-4 the focus is a lot more on the LB. Other than Ware I'm not seeing much out of the other LB

Ayodele's having a pretty good season.

I'm aware however Jerry has not seen his investment prove it's worth, he may long for the 4-3 and a Billy Cundiff or Chris Boniol.

At times he has stepped up normally early in the game and then is pretty much a non factor. To run a 3-4 I think we need consistant play from our Backers.

You wanna start the thread, or shall I? ;)

:laugh2: It does seem that way. Myself I tend to like the 4-3 but I think this team should give the 3-4 more time. I know some will disagree but for me regardless of which defense you play it still comes down to players making the right reads and executing on the field. If you don't then the 4-3 is not going to change anything.

Spears at # 20 had me shaking my head then, and has me shaking my head now.

I'm not talking about verbal jousting. I'm talking about hitting a guy so hard that he doesnt know what a football is for the better part of 3 days.

then not picking that player up and patting him on the helmet.;)

I agree sort of. Ware game needs more production, but it has to come natrually. If the team can scheme better and put more consistant pressure (especially up the middle) Ware's game will natruly evolve. If he starts trying to do more then he's capable, it will have a adverse affect. I think our secondary is pretty good, this lack of QB pressure is absolutely rediculous.

I've been a Zimmer supporter. He had the #1 defense in the league just a few years ago. But what's going on now is just sickening. We finally have an Offense that can produce and now this. Please please stop the bleeding. The passing lanes down the middle of our defense is just horrendous. The across the field reciever patterns the opposing team is getting away with is crazy. I think we should just blitz blitz blitz, couldn't be any worse.

No, not RW. Not Henry or James. Not even Spears or Canty.

The player who has to step up is, oddly enough, the one who has played better than anyone this year on defense: DeMarcus Ware

He has to start developing a nasty streak about him. He has great physical ability, but he doesnt have that ability to put the fear of God in offensive players like the great LBs do. Guys like Lawrence Taylor, Mike Singletary, etc. hit you to the point where, as they say, you stayed hit. Ware doesnt have that nasty streak about him. I'm not saying he has to go ape sheet crazy when he gets a sack like 'roid rage over in San Diego, but he needs to start blowing people up.

He has to assume a leadership role. The best teams are the teams in which the best players on said teams are also leaders. That is not the case with Dallas. Our 4 best players, Newman, Owens, Williams and Ware, are all either quite are too sopcially inept to be leaders. Newman appears to finally be stepping into that role somewhat, but we need our most talented defensive playmaker to get in guys faces when they screw up. He needs to get visibly pissed off when people screw up. This team is in need of true leaders on defense, and Ware needs to assume such a role.

Ever see the movie, Ghost and the Darkness?

Ware is the Ghost but he still needs a Darkness. Randy White and Harvey Martin were terrors together as were Lilly and Andrie. Heck, even Haley and Lett -- when he wasn't on suspension -- were a formidable duo.

I guess my point is that Ware is good but he can be better with someone else he can feed off of. I think, given the circumstances, he is doing an outstanding job.

Ghost in the Darkness. Darkness as in night time and not the name of one of the killer lions.

Sorry, you get my point.

Alone, Ware is just a cute, rambunctious lion cub but pair him up with another man-eater and they can be terrors.

Ferguson hasnt played well the last few weeks. He got manhandled last week against Philly.
Yet he was the only one making plays around the LOS.

Carpenter has a mane so I guess you could give it a shot;)

According to BP (PC), Fergy was the only guy on defense who did his job against Philly.

True. :laugh2:

He doesn't come across as mean, however. Merriman, on the other hand, does. :D

I think it is the LB core that needs to step up, they are your main guys in a 3-4 defense and right now they are not making the right reads and end up allowing TE and backs to be wideopen. They are over pursuing on runs and allowing backs to cut back on them and other than Ware they are not putting pressure on the QB

I agree. To suggest that Ware has to step it up is ridiculous. He has played better than anyone (or perhaps Newman) on the defensive side of the ball. To suggest that Ware has to step is up is ridiculous. He is the last guy I would be pointing my finger at.
