The positive for missing Gallup for TD

Even through Dak hitting the wide-open Gallup for the TD pass would have put us up 20-10, there was six minutes left in the game at that point. Instead, we methodically moved the ball (with the benefit of a bad spot) and drained another four minutes.

Granted, we would have been lamenting it if Brees had been able to put together a two-minute scoring drive, but we don't know what would have happened if the Saints had six minutes to work with on offense down 10. The way our defense was playing, I don't know if the Saints would have been able to drive for a TD, get the ball back and make a game-tying field goal, but sometimes a bad play ends up having a good result ... and the long drive was the good result of this one.

Like Aikman said that is a tough throw. Seen lots of QB's overthrow that pass or under throw. Gallup is getting better and better

I think it was cleared that Dak was pumped after his tough run on the previous play. Hard to dial back on the adrenaline there when he needed to put more air under the ball.

Ultimately, I'm glad about the way it worked out, though, since the ball takes some strange bounces sometimes.

Throwing the perfect ball is tough, and would have been at TD. But as Aikman also said, just getting out in the area is a huge gain. Daks instinct is to throw the ball away from defenders, which is a great trait. But sometimes he goes too far in being careful.

Gallup is really showing me something with these double moves. He's been so close to having some huge plays on a weekly basis.

And I think Cooper is helping with Gallup's development as well. Gallup basically said it a few weeks back when discussing Cooper's route running.

He's also the anti-body-catcher. Kid puts his paws on the ball and its caught, period. He is very good at getting both his hands in place before it arrives.

Also, no I don't agree with there being a positive to Dak missing that throw.

Gallup owned Apple last night.

Trending way up. Especially with Cooper on the opposite side

Him winning his one-on-ones against No. 2 corners would give us the receiver balance that we need. Teams can't load the box to stop Zeke AND take away Cooper, Gallup and Beasley if Gallup continues to progress.

I pointed this out as well. Having said that, he has to hit these gimmie tds. Imagine he has hit even 75% of these gimmies he has missed....he would be around 20 tds right now.

Having a QB capable of making these easy throws is much more beneficial in the long run than not giving the Saints the ball back with too much time left.

Sometimes. In this case, it worked out well. Again, who knows what happens if we score quickly there.

I believe that's the exact same pattern on the same side of the field where Dak hit Gallup for his first ever NFL TD back in preseason. As I recall, Dak laid it in there perfectly.

Dak absolutely is capable of making some beautiful passes at times. He has the arm and he has the hand-eye coordination. Hopefully over time he can become more and more consistent.

He made a lot of nice plays but bonehead plays too. This was one of em. He had him and could have just laid it in there.

That's the way it played out, but if the officials had made the right call on the Beasley play, we would have been punting it to them with 5 minutes left and a 3 point lead. I'll take the points whenever I can get them, thanks.

There is nothing positive about missing a wide-open receiver. Quarterback has to make those throws, if we were behind on the scoreboard everyone would be crucifying Dak.

Four more minutes off the clock is a positive.

If we had been behind and Dak missed that throw, then fans would be absolutely justified in blaming him for that.

Another throw that is very hard to do.
As they said it on NFLN later on. Is that screen pass to Zeke for the TD. The way they set it up, and toss it over the players and be a short throw. They said that is very difficult more than people think or from what it looks like.
That was from a former NFL players, and the others agreed.

So that and from what Troy said on the Gallup miss. 2 hard throws to make.
But I thought similar, after they got the next 1st after. I was thinking that is ok, got the 1st down, just use it to bleed the lock more.

Every QB misses some of those throws. He made just as beautiful a throw to Gallup on the opening series with much tighter coverage.

I still lament Staubach throwing behind a wide open in the end zone Jackie Smith. Staubach said after the game he was shocked he was so wide open he guided the ball to avoid missing him and the end result was he missed him (Smith still should've caught the ball IMO).
