The potentially devastating hit on T-NEW

The first thing I thought after that hit, was about the long thread we had on this site about whether or not he should return punts.

One poster did (impressive) research to show that injuries were no more likely returning punts than just playing the game, but man....when I saw that hit, I thought I saw my greatest fear coming to fruition.

So while it was no harm, does anyone else want to rethink having Newman return punts? Because after that, I simply don't want to see him doing it anymore. That was far too close for comfort.

Obviously the magnitude of the great win is the bigger story, but that hit really stuck with me....how close we were to losing our best CB for the game, if not a few weeks (see: Trent Green).

That hit was one in a million with perfect timing. Now Newman shouldn't have been trying to catch that ball on the sidelines as much hang time that was on that punt, but that is a different story.

I still want him back there.

yeah, Newman should have recognized how close the defenders were

I like the # of punts that he returns now

What he said. ^

I don't want him back there anymore. Its not like he has busted on this year. It is more dangerous for him than it is for the other team.

My exact words when he got hit were "and that's why wedon't have him returning punts".

A simple fair catch would have prevented that hit...

But yeah, when he went out, I was afraid he might not be back for the day... Or longer. :(

:Hammer: I can't put enough hammers on this post.

Newman just needs to take some fair catch lessons from Crayton.

That was the biggest hit I've seen all year.

anyone but Crayton, take lessons from Crayton, and you'll see Newman fair-catching 60% of the time lol

He should have called for a fair catch. Simple and plain. That comes from him not returning that many punts and pressing to make a play in the limited amounts he gets.

That hit scared the crap outta me. I had to immediately run to the bedroom and change my soiled pants.
