The problem was the secondary couldn't stop ANY big play no matter WHAT the scheme or formation.
The only unfortunate thing about your post is the fact that we were one of the best teams in all of football at preventing the big play...

It doesn't work for us...but it does often work for other teams. The play that set up GB winning field goal, going prevent on 3-20 or whatever it was made very little sense...send some sort of blitz, put Rogers under some duress, make him complete the perfect pass under duress...

simple. rush the three man line, then blitz two outside DBs. QB has just a few seconds to get rid of ball. he cannot throw the Hail Mary or scramble.

The first time I can remember cursing the prevent defense was in game against San Francisco.
We had a 5 point lead near the end of the game, went prevent and watched San Fran run and dink and dunk right down the field.
It had a tragic end. The Catch NFC championship game 1982

Cleveland vs Denver 87 88 was my first time knowing it was trash.

The first problem was Lawrence losing contain on Rodgers and crashing inside instead of taking a wide rush and keeping Rodgers from rolling out to the left.
No that was a designed play for him to roll left, 1 guard pulled out and ran to left to be in front of rodgers, and others blocked backside, to delay
guy getting to him. rodgers also intended to throw to left side of field, and a long enough throw so it would be in fg range.

Our spy was stupid and useless, as rodgers knew a run would not help and time would run out.

The prevent defense is playing to not lose, it is bend dont break, and it has lost way more games than it has won.
The prevent is what allowed staubach to do all his comebacks, and if receivers are kept in front of defenders, that is better,
but they can still make the catch.
Cook was uncontested, ran uncovered to left, at angle. and drifted behind jones. and jones was stupid, as he was not covering anyone.
if he was looking for a run by rodgers, he is real dumb.

Basically we let cook run a relaxed route to sideline, uncontested, and Rodgers , no one got close, he rolled out for time
and no one in front, so what they did was smart, what we did was stupid.

the reason the recievers should have been jammed at the line is that would keep them from getting far down field.
Allowing a guy to get 36 yards down field was stupid.
and they all got down field, but the others did have a guy on them, but cook no one covered him, and what jones did was useless.

The prevent should be outlawed from all the teams defensive playbook. Prevent signals to me that we are scared to give up the big play, so lets give them 30 yards in front of us so they can kick the game winning FG!!!!.

I get the prevent defense when you have a multiple score lead and there isn't much time left in the game.

Can't remember which game (possibly Was) it was but we were up quite a bit and they forced their opponent to dink it down the field using up 3 of the final 4 minutes. There is some validity in that to me, you don't want a mistake to let a team get a quick easy score in that situation.

Durant was the Spy and ran right at the blocker. If he had gone outside of the blocker he could have rushed Rodgers throw.

which side was he on ? the play was a designed roll to rodgers left.
I might add that we dont have any designed roll outs like this, and our defense was not prepared for them.

He was on that side... And on the snap took the diagonal inside. If he had taken a wide rush he would have had a much better chance of shutting the play down.

exactly, and he waited too long to rush outside,he should have stayed even with rodgers.
but playing prevent there, was exactly what rodgers needed.

ok it was hard to see the #'s
Well he probably expected a drop back, not a spin and rollout.
The whole game plan should have been to not let rodgers roll out like he did, which can be done if coached to do that.
de's play contain instead of sack.

Time is how Rodgers kills you and that's exactly what we gave him. Him buying time is a guaranteed loss. But if you limit his time to quick throws, you got him eventually. We gave him all day.
