Here’s the problem with acquiring a QB now- You cannot just “plug and play” at the QB position. You can acquire a WR or RB or OL or LB and just plug and play. Not the QB. The QB must learn the offense and that takes much more than a week.

Remember in Sept, 2015, Tony Romo broke his collar bone but would be back in November. We had Brandon Weeden as a backup but he was god-awful. Jerry traded a 7th round pick for Matt Cassel, the former competent backup for Tom Brady in New England.

After acquiring Cassel, it took 2-3 weeks before he could play because he had to learn the offense. Even after a few weeks, his grasp of the offense was about to a pre-season game level, which is about 25-50% of the offense.

The bottom line is acquiring a QB during the season in a trade or free agency is very difficult when it comes to preparing them to play quickly. Not saying we shouldn’t be looking. But even if we acquired Jimmy G or some other veteran, it will take some time to get them ready to play.

And…remember…when roster cuts were being made two weeks ago, the Cowboys cut Cooper Rush, Will Grier and the Nooch and not a single team picked them up. The Cowboys already knew before the season started they did not have a good backup QB situation. But this FO is NEVER prepared for a worst case scenario.

The backup QB position should be taking care of in the offseason are we surprised that the Jones boys are caught yet again with their pants down? No pun intended Jerrah.

You can't plug and play a QB but maybe this offense would benefit from a Tecmo Bowl style playbook by running only ten plays or so.

The team as it stands right now is a direct result of the off season "plan". The back-up QB spot was not addressed in any significant way b/c they apparently like Cooper Rush. Well, we are about to see.

people not talking about this enough!

they know dak is VERY injury prone

the only way it make any sense is if they just did not think this team was good and to invest in a good back up was not worth it wich i do not think is true so the most likly explanation is jerry and stephen are just dumb haha

Fitzpatrick said he didn't need any stupid playbook. Give me the ball and run out there, I'll hit you.

The negativity is getting awful in here. sheesh, I'll have to look for a new forum soon. Too many people trying to take my job.

Especially when they are sitting on 22 million in cap space. They couldn't get a decent backup QB with that? Two idiots that are good at selling and making money. Their egos make them believe that they have great football minds.

There won't be any easy fix for the Cowboys because the problem literally starts at the top. QB is just one of the problems that results in having a guy who is wearing too many hats serving as GM.

The Joneses are great at looking for batteries for the smoke alarm after the house burned down.

And what QB would want to walk into this situation? Jimmy G ain’t dumb.

And he has a no-trade clause. So, he would have to approve the trade. He's going to look at this team and see a mash unit OL , CD Lamb. and 4 wrs who would struggle to make another team.
