The other issue is that the team is constructed so poorly that grabbing a QB really doesn’t make sense. Why bother? We’re not going to win a lot of games so why waste the draft picks? We have too many holes to fill.
I agree with this! We are a bad team now. We can't fix it now by cashing in our future with draft picks. Keep your powder dry and draft with better picks next year.

Here’s the problem with acquiring a QB now- You cannot just “plug and play” at the QB position. You can acquire a WR or RB or OL or LB and just plug and play. Not the QB. The QB must learn the offense and that takes much more than a week.

Remember in Sept, 2015, Tony Romo broke his collar bone but would be back in November. We had Brandon Weeden as a backup but he was god-awful. Jerry traded a 7th round pick for Matt Cassel, the former competent backup for Tom Brady in New England.

After acquiring Cassel, it took 2-3 weeks before he could play because he had to learn the offense. Even after a few weeks, his grasp of the offense was about to a pre-season game level, which is about 25-50% of the offense.

The bottom line is acquiring a QB during the season in a trade or free agency is very difficult when it comes to preparing them to play quickly. Not saying we shouldn’t be looking. But even if we acquired Jimmy G or some other veteran, it will take some time to get them ready to play.

And…remember…when roster cuts were being made two weeks ago, the Cowboys cut Cooper Rush, Will Grier and the Nooch and not a single team picked them up. The Cowboys already knew before the season started they did not have a good backup QB situation. But this FO is NEVER prepared for a worst case scenario.

the new QB should be brought in by the new HC and new OC. No point in bringing in a new QB when you’re going to change HC and OC soon

If a QB is really good he is probably starting somewhere. There are not 32 high quality starters in the league.

If Rush struggles, Kellen Moore might make himself the QB.

This a league where talent at the QB position is extremely difficult to find. A quarter of this league is starved for even starter level talent at QB. It’s why the market for QBs is paying so high. In other words there are no miracles out there.

The Joneses are great at looking for batteries for the smoke alarm after the house burned down.

And what QB would want to walk into this situation? Jimmy G ain’t dumb.
the same guys who comes here to coach? the love of money is the root of all evil. they are guys out there who would come in here to get some of the devil's money.

I would draft QBs more often. It is a good method to find a decent backup.

Did I miss the roster moves to make that happen? Who went on IR for them to add him and Maher to the 53?
Or is that the 55 man roster for week 1?

dk- was just checking out roster and saw him on 53

we almost have to call Grier up. Right now if Rush goes down we have no one. Normally u may roll the dice but look at our OL. As weak as it was to begin we lost a below average LG to became even weaker. On at least 2 of the sacks the defender came in completely unblocked. The line is so new/poor blitzers are getting thru unnoticed. I really see Rush having rough time-lasting 3 games without going down may be to much to ask.

I see our OL as a bigger problem than qb situation-at least until Peters starts

Acquiring a QB isn’t a viable option. Dak will return in 6-8 weeks, maybe sooner .

Well built and ran teams find a way to win a couple games with their backup QB. Wait. Lol

We all knew that if Dak went down , season basically over pending how long he’s out.

But this point forward much like we did in 2016 after we finally accepted Romo was injury prone, it’s time to draft a reliable backup or potential heir apparent.

The Cowboys had 4 players injured Sunday. Surely one or two of them will go on IR making room for a QB and a kicker, no?

The Cowboys need to elevate both QBs because if Rush gets hurt or is ineffective, they will need a backup active for the game.

We have a backup we won with last year. We won’t beat the better teams but we should have a chance against lesser teams .

Circle NY and Det as winnable games. Maybe Wash

This team needs a lot of things that unfortunately won't change. However it really needs 23 draft position. Not meaningless wins this season that sell hope and jerseys.

Not in one week but we have an opportunity to find somebody that can win games. Why not go for it. Dak is still a question mark even when healthy

There’s no way this owner and sidekick DNA beneficiary will ever admit they have made a mistake. They will double down on a mistake before admitting one. Then when it fails, they will blame the players and coaches.

Another great post Bob, what does it say when some of the fans have more common sense and football knowledge than those two schmucks in the front office. This isn't the first time they have been caught with their pants down
