Sure we need a stud in the middle of the defensive line and a couple other pieces but seriously we had this solved we were bringing 5 dropping 6 into coverage and we had quarterbacks panic yet for whatever reason we decided to go back to the rush three or four and Zone everything

So sure we need talent but we need a DC that's going to keep changing the defense around to keep offenses guessing. I'm all for keeping rod and some capacity but the design and play-calling needs to go to somebody else

we haven't ignored those spots

Lawrence
Crawford
Gregory

the bum we signed from carolina

We haven't ignored it, but other than Hardy, who was a rental, we've tried to build it on the cheap. A lot of this is because we were concentrating on building the monster O-line that we have while doing enough on defense to compete.

Now, that the O-line is built, we need to focus on improving the D-line. Marinelli's scheme depends heavily on his front four and we need to either give him some weapons to work with or change schemes.

Dallas plays a more passive, reactive defense under Marinelli.

That's not true at all. Not even close. It's the exact opposite of the truth.

The #1 thing Marinelli wants from his defensive front is to attack the quarterback. He wants four guys to do that relentlessly.

Here is an article about his approach:

You are confusing results with philosophy.

He doesn't have the players to do what he wants to do. Period.

I agree that he has a bunch of junk to work with.

Try go up to any defensive coach in the league and tell them this:

"Season starts in a week...but sorry bro. We are going to take away your starting right end....and your starting left end...we're taking him away too. And that backup defensive end your team drafted to be a backup...you can't play him a single down. But hey...give us some stout pass rush, you hear!"

Gregory was a no-show because of the grass. Lawrence was suspended or hurt the whole season. Tapper gone from day one.

On top of the crippling of our pass rush personnel RM had this:

We go into the playoffs with Crawford working with a messed up shoulder that will require surgery, Claiborne trying to play after being gone 8 weeks....Scandrick playing thru plantar fascia issues. Our safeties are nothing special to begin with.

That Saints D led the NFL in turnovers that year. That is huge when you have a powerful offense like they did.

Thats what I was trying to say. I dont have good memory for details usually, so I had to check the numbers, but I recall that those Ds were better enough to help the Os win those rings.
