is we invested in no d-linemen. Instead we go bargain bin shopping. No depth.

The problem is that we have been abused by TEs and RBs out of the backfield and nobody knows how to adjust....

Number 1 problem is half our D-line that we paid almost 20 mil for have been on the field for about 2 min should have cut Rat and let Spencer walk if i c either one of those 2 with the star on again it will make me sick.

That is simply not true. Dallas had HEAVILY invested in DL.
We have a DL price tag far beyond anyone else.
The bargain bin guys are replacements for replacements.
No NFL team has money tied up into 3rd stringers.

Dallas has used the franchise tag two years in a row on a DL and has the 2nd highest paid DL in football on the other side.

Don't confuse injury status with commitment.
3 of the 4 desired and paid for starters along this DL all rank top 5 for pay at their positions.
Crawford, Ratliff, Spencer are all out. That's 2 Pro Bowlers and a coveted 3rd round pick.
No DL looks great when you remove that.

Was far cheaper to keep Rat than cut him that's why he is here.

Spencer gave us great effort the past couple seasons and simply suffered a very serious injury.
Not wanting him back is just goofy.

jterrell...

I get your point, but the Cowboys seem to be chasing shadows when it come to DL. What they were instead of what they could or will be.

Part of it is scouting and drafting, another part is retention of players that are done playing at a high level.
And of course coaching.

Yea whatever he played well 1 season when he was the best player left i think even Goofy could c this no way worth 11 mil no way.

Bingo....team lost four regulars on the line.

Problem with switching to the 4-3, was the best players on defense were mainly linebackers who thrived in the 3-4 defense.

and poor contract mgt. ratliff was breaking down we gave him 48m.

Lots of people on here were an advocate of not even franchising spencer.

We should let him walk and took the draft pick if someone gave him a Big contract like he wanted. I don't think he would have got that big deal like he wanted (other teams prob would have checked his knees better) and prob would have ran back to Jerry and took the deal he was offering and saved the team some cap but know we had to tag a guy for 11 mil to play a pos he hadn't played since college and has a bad knee now. Other problem is he was forced to stay when he wanted a big contract (not a happy player)

Rat, Spencer, Crawford and a highly regarded rotational guy in Bass. That is a lot to lose in a unit that is key for scheme to work. But it is the LBs that concern me more. They look completely inept in coverage and are now starting to have trouble defending the run.

We did not use the franchise tag on DL 2 years in a row. Spencer was a LB last year.

We all know the Giants are a joke tho year, but our defense just looked so crisp against them. We were gang tackling, stripping balls, getting pressure. It looked like a defensive scheme that was going to work. Even looked good against KC. I don't know what's happened in the last 3 weeks to completely change that.

A week ago we were praising Selvie and Hayden and now we need a whole new D-Line? I just think the Broncos O-Line was that good

Ware got injured.

Ware got injured.

At the beginning of the season I joked that Spencer, Ware, Ratliff, and Hatch were all going to be riding Rascal scooters (because of their age) before the season was over. I unfortunately may be right. :(

How many sacks and turnovers do the Cowboys have so far? So, all is not bad. We had something like 16 turnovers total last year. We are doing a lot better in that department.

Last two weeks, the LBs have been taken advantage and abused by two very good veteran QBs, one of which is probably the greatest to have ever played the QB position. Both got the ball out quick to avoid sacks.

The problem is it is a simple scheme and good qbs can make presnap reads on the zone they know we are running and get the ball out in a second or two giving our dline no chance to get there. This is where an adjustment needs to be made. Their talent is also an issue as even when the ball was held they were not really getting there. Still holding out hope our D picks it up against qbs not named Manning or an improved Phillip Rivers going forward. Quick reads are killing us though.
