the proving grounds

seems like so many guys on the squad this year are really intent on proving themselves in one way or another:

romo -- that he can play and win -- without terrell owens, and in december

roy williams -- that he can be as productive as you-know-who

austin -- that he can stay healthy and be a playmaker in this league

barber -- that he's still the "barbarian" and that last season's down performance was a fluke

jenkins/scandrick -- each one wants to be a starter and a shutdown corner

sensabaugh -- that the jaguars made a mistake; that he can make plays that rw31 couldn't

bradie james -- that he deserves to be in the pro bowl

garrett -- that he can lead an offense without owens and make adjustments (in other words, that he really is a genius and deserves a head coaching position)

wade -- that he's not a guy who can't win a playoff game; that he's a good coach who deserves to stick around

even bobby carpenter -- that he can contribute; that he isn't a bust

having a lot of guys who are not merely trying to win a job, but who are out to prove something about themselves, could be a great thing.

we all know there's a lot of talent, but lack of heart has hurt this team down the stretch. so if so many of the guys on the team really have that attitude, that they're fighting for something personally, hopefully it will take over the team's collective attitude, and we'll see some really fired-up play on the field.

According to most on the board, Romo doesn't need to prove anything. You are right about everything you posted though. We'll see who is ready to win and who isn't.

I think that is a given, considered when Roy Williams was on the field it was like we were playing 11 on 10.

Our OL needs to prove they can play in December. They killed us last year.

yep, just another thing to prove.

:)

on one hand, there should be lots and lots of motivation this year. on the other, there are a whole lot of "what-ifs" and "maybes".

i'm just hoping that all these things come together.

I don't care what any of them do "individually" to prove themselves this year.

All I care about is this "team" winning games in January.

Nothing else matters as long as they accomplish that.

For example, I could care less if Wade gets fired at midseason or by injury McGee winds up as our QB in the playoffs.....JUST WIN IN FREAKIN' JANUARY!!!

I don't think this is true.

I think most of us realize that Romo, to take the next step into greatness, has to get us over the hump.

I just don't think this is a "make or break" year for him (he's already proven he's a good QB). I also realize that his struggles later in the year aren't all his fault...although he deserves most of the blame.

Folks simply overreact with the team QB.

Until this TEAM finds some heart, they will not win anything. It was obvious they had none last year, especially at the end of the year. We'll see if they found one this year or if they are just playing to cash a paycheck.
