Coach Phillips says "we will be aggressive", and "we will put pressure on the QB".

After hearing that, I can't wipe this smile off my face.

You guys do realize that one of the games this season when we elected to "be aggressive", and "put pressure on the QB", we beat the Super Bowl Champs !!

I love aggressive defenses.

I am with you there my friend! Have to keep wiping the drool off my mouth in anticipation of seeing a REAL defense out there.

No more playing "not to lose" or "read and react", or the dreaded "bend but don't break" crap. We finally get to see an attacking style defense in Big D again and I can't wait!
 
Me too if your going to lose you might as well go down swinging.

I agree with Doomsday, "if you're going to lose you might as well go down swinging."

The thing is, when we "came out swinging", we disrupted P. Manning and beat the then undefeated Colts.

I realize WP is not some magic defensive genius that will propel us immediately into the Super Bowl, but we could be moving in that direction.
 
That was a great read BTW about the Phillips 34 defense. I wish someone else had other copies of games the Chargers played, where they were relentless against opponents quarterbacks.
 
Front 3 or secondary have to exude some dominance.

Neither is ready at this point. They are almost there, I need to see how this draft pans out before I make a call on expectations.
 
No more Zimmer defense!

I hope the players can break out of the Zimmer mindset, though. I hope the forced cautiousness and forced denial-of-instincts hasn't permanently damages these players.

Questions?
Where do we focus in the draft?
- Our DL to me still needs some work because we will need that 3 man QB pressure at times.
- What about our OL
- What about our secondary?
- Anticipate needing to replace any quality people because of free agency or anything?
- Who will backup Romo?
- What about a tough short yardage FB?
- Will our offense find more creative ways to get the ball to ALL of our players. Really... we have too many weapons in my book to not allow our offense to shine.
 
I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of pass rush pressure we will be applying with Phillips' defense. I'm all for being a more aggressive team on defense. I would think/hope that Phillips will want to bring in someone either through FA or the draft, who will be able to bolster our pass rush pressure to compliment Ware. That would be a good place to start in terms of making some changes to our current defense.

I tend to agree with you on the DLine but we'll see. San Diego had Castillo and Olshansky putting significant pressure on the QB from the ends an d Canty and Spears have not shown that ability thus far. With that said, Wade has had good things to say about both, and I believe it was Ellis that said Spears wasn't being used to the best of his abilities so we shall see.

As for the secondary, I don't think it's far off. If we do start putting some pressure on the QB I think some of our flaws will disappear on their own (ie - The WR won't have enough time to burn RW). Add that onto a new FS (or new CB if Henry moves to FS) and they should be just fine.

Lets hope that after watching film of every game, that WP realize that we need fixes on both lines.

There is talk of moving Henry to FS and going after a CB to replace him.

As much as I like Romo, (see sig pic) I would like to see us bring someone in to compete with him for the starting job.

A short yardage FB is good, but I think Barber can get that job done if we improve the O-Line.

WP has said that although he is a defensive guy, he always tells his OC to get the ball to the stars/playmakers.

Sound advice.

This is all nice and good. I want to be aggressive also, just make sure you remember when we are beat on an 45 yard TD cause we were blitzing that you won't be going nuts on chat.

I'm willing to go through that short-term disgust to see this aggressive D work, are you??

I love aggressive woman, but an aggressive defense will do...
 
What I like about his defense is when you watch them play guys are going crazy on defense before the ball is ever snapped.

Its just constant movement and its hard to guess who is coming and who isnt.

This defense causes confusion before and after the snap.

Ours last year did neither.
