TUNA TO MIAMI ROADBLOCK?

A league source has raised with us a fact that could prevent any real talks between the Fins and Cowboys coach Bill Parcells from ever materializing.
Parcells is represented by Jimmy Sexton, who also represents former Miami coach Nick Saban. So it would be awkward, to say the least, for Sexton to be negotiating with the Dolphins about a contract for Parcells.
Another potential glitch is the fact that Saban was convinced, as one league source tells us, that G.M. Randy Mueller is not a solid talent evaluator. Regardless of whether Mueller is or isn't (and we tend to think he is), Saban's opinions surely made their way to Sexton -- which surely made their way to Parcells.
Still, Parcells is his own guy and will make his own decisions. If he wants the Miami job and he recognizes that he'll need a different agent in order to make it happen, he'll get one. And if he thinks Mueller can do the job even if Saban thinks he can't, Parcells will work with him

What's this?? Someone actually called PFT on their normal MO??

So they fling the crap up on the wall and some "league source" calls them out and tells them why it won't happen...:laugh2:

I would think that if for some reason Bill did leave to coach somewhere else..it would be to go back to the New York giants, if Tom quits or gets fired, so that Bill could be close to home and also for nostalgic reasons.

Miami can have him.

We could only be so lucky to get some compensation for him.

This rumor is just the result of some sports writer who on some drunken binge, happen to have a can of dolphin free tuna next to his gin and tonic.

Bill to the Dolphins?
Here's what I just read on ProFootballTalk.com:

"Here's another name to add to the list of high-profile coaches who could land in Miami.

Bill Parcells.

This is all speculation, but there's talk in league circles that, if the Fins decide to keep G.M. Randy Mueller, a Mueller-Parcells pairing could work. Parcells, we're told, has always had a good relationship with Mueller. And there is an increasing belief that Parcells has had all he can take of Dallas owner Jerry Jones.

So if the Tuna still wants to coach -- and if he doesn't want to work any longer for Jones -- Miami becomes a real possibility.

Much of this depends on how the Cowboys fare in the playoffs. Based on recent performances, however, the Tuna's tenure in Texas could become a relevant topic in little over two days."
This makes for interesting discussion, but even with his track record, I think this is Bill's final stop. If the Cowboys lose Saturday, look for Bill to hole up for a few days before making a decision.

Is it his decision to make?

I know he thinks it is, but I'm not convinced about Jerry.

Sacks allowed
The research department just sent over the sacks allowed numbers I asked for this morning.

According to a highly regarded stats service, Flozell Adams led the team with 7 1/2 sacks allowed. He was tied for 16th in the league.

Kyle Kosier came in second with five, Colombo had 4 1/2, Gurode had four and Rivera was the low man with 3 1/2.

Blog Happy Hour begins in 20 minutes.

while i dont know how much of that is credible, i think that could work for bill, since he's in florida every offseason until the draft basically

I have a distinct feeling Cowher's friend Marty Schottenheimer can tell him all about Mister Snyder's stupidity.

"Basically", he takes a few weeks off after the season ends, then returns to Valley Ranch for the offseason, and is heavily involved in the pre-draft AND free agency work.

Spags has written enough about the 'sightings' over the years.

He simply doesn't speak to the press.

Profootball talk will never give up their view that Parcells and Jones cannot coexist. Even though it has been four years, if Parcells leaves, then it will be due to Jones.

As an aside, if Parcells were to resign, wouldn't he still have to stay out of football next year given he has a contract with us for next season? I know he did it to the Patriots when he left to join the Jets but how exactly could he quit us and sign with the Dolphins without us getting compensation?

I know this sounds simplistic but if we lose to the Seahawks Jones may pull the trigger. If we go deep into the playoffs it may revert back to Parcells decision. Something is afoot because Parcells signed an extension which I guess has a year to year reassessment clause. If everything was hunky dory Parcells would simply tell the press that he will customarily reflect when the Cowboys post-season is over but more than likely return.

I can not see how there is any validity at all to this rumor. I mean, consider the situation for just a second.

The only real thing everybody knows is that Bill is not in this for the long haul. Couple seasons at most. Now, take a good hard look at Miami.

Defensively:

Starting DL consists of Kevin Carter (13 season next year), Keith Traylor (17th seaons next year), Vonnie Holiday (10th season next year), Jason Taylor (11th season next year). That's old and they don't exactly have good young tallent ready to step in and replace all these guys.

Starting LBs are Donnie Spragan (10th year next season), Zach Thomas (12th season next year) and Channing Crowder (3rd season next year). That's not much better.

Starting defensive back field consist of Will Allen (7th year next season), Andre Goodman (6th season next year), Renaldo Hill (7th seaons next year) Yere Bell (4th season next year). Of all these guys, I really only like Bell as a starter and I don't love that guy. They do have Jason Allen and he could develope but at CB, I don't like anybody. While they are relatively young, there going to have to find CBs.

Offensively, there in better shape but they still need OL help, they need another WR and they have to get there QB situation figured out. They are not in great cap shape so I don't see them being able to go out and spend recklesly on FAs. Maybe some talent but certainly not enough.

You figure, with the departure of Saban, there also going to need a new coaching staff so anybody who takes the job will have to put one together.

Why on earth would Parcells, at this stage of his career, be interested in taking a job like that one?

I dont think there is any way that Bill leaves a coaching gig in the BIG ROOM in Vegas for the lounge room elsewhere.

Sidebar: I think Cowher is the perfect coach for the Raiduh's.

Above all, Parcells has a giant ego. He won't go to an underachieving team with no real QB prospect and an aging, no-name defense.

In Miami he'd be away from his beloved New Joisey and New York.

I'd say there is a better chance Parcells will end up in a Giants jacket than a Dolls.
