The fact that the Cowboys have such an illustrious, although certainly not recently, history of success in the NFL has attracted a certain kind of fan. This fan expects greatness every season, every game and every play. And when that invariably doesn’t happen they complain to such an extent that instead of being fans of the Cowboys, they become to hate everything about them.

These same fans have already quit this season, after 1 game. Don’t get me wrong, the team laid a big fact egg last Sunday. No part of the offense passed any kind of eye test. The play calling. The QB. The WR’s and most discouraging the OL. Special teams were not close to being special. Part of that is most assuredly because of the lack of playing time in preseason for the offense and special teams. More defensive players played and it showed as they gave a solid effort against a very dynamic QB. But part of it has nothing to do with not playing in the preseason.

The frankly disgusting thing about this first game is all the quitters here who again have thrown in the towel and quit. After 1 game. THese same posters have been posting all offseason about how much the Cowboys suck. They’ve been salivating for this first game disasater and on queue have been gloating ever since. I just don’t get it.

Blah blah blah. There is nothing wrong with expecting one of the most storied franchises in all of sports to win a championship every few years or so. 23 years of mediocrity will make the most avid fan become cynical about things. You are barking up the wrong tree because the fairweather fans aren't posting on a Cowboys fan site.

Well, you can enjoy your misery. I could care less. I think, as a human, it’s better to be a glass half full guy rather than a Debbie Downer like yourself. I think most reasonable people would agree. It’s 1 game. Pull your panties out.

If you could care less you wouldn't have started a thread trying to scold all of the fans who are vocalizing their disgust with the sad state of affairs that is the Dallas Cowboys.

If you’re ok with what Jerry Jones has rolled out the last 23 years, more power to you. If Expecting a championship every two decades is asking too much I’m guilty as charged. And I’m still a Cowboys fan. A fan who doesn’t see high expectations as a half full glass.

I’m not criticizing you if your glass is at whatever level you see it. I decided a long time ago that it’s not my place (or anyone else’s for that matter) to decide how full someone’s glass is. Sometimes criticism is a good thing. If you want to handicap who’s being a good fan, good luck to you. To me anyone who chooses to follow this team after what Jerry Jones has done to it deserves to be credited with being a Cowboys fan.

Greatness every season???? lol People want to see competence and a front office willing to be a little more proactive to win football games. Some are obviously fine with the state of the team, but some are not!! Opening day was a complete disaster and coaching is the usual train wreck.

Jason - excellent post. One game is all we need to suffer through to know this FO has once again done very little to help the team.

I didn’t see the phrase “give up” from anyone but you Rock. I suggest that we Cowboys fans stick together- even when we disagree. It’s all good...really.
When you’re negative about everything that’s how it comes across to everyone. It’s an attitude. It’s character. It’s evident in all aspects of ones life if they are like that. Being a Cowboys fan is just another avenue to display the “I give up at the first round coming from down range”. You quit on the Cowboys after 1 game, you will quit in other areas of your life.

I get your point and love your optimism as far as it only being the first game. We see this every year win or lose and it usually means nothing in the big picture because week1 usually means nothing in regards to the season. But dude, this was bad. This doesn't look fixable. It looks to be chronic. This is the first time I thought this since the expansion team Houston Texans beat us. I hope I'm wrong.

It did look bad. No 2 ways about it. But I’m not giving up hope yet. There were some positives. The defense was solid and when the offense didn’t have a penalty or the QB get sacked, moved the ball. The problem was in the first half all the penalties and sacks. I think that will work itself out.

Love the optimism, I just don't have it, especially after watching the Rams game. We're so far away I just don't see it working itself out. Like I said, I hope I'm wrong. But unless we reform the offensive gameplan I think we're done. That crap we came out with on Sunday is not the winning formula no matter who is playing. If we trot that out again we'll lose again. Rinse and repeat.
