The real key to the WR forward strategy

That, my friends, is Ryan Switzer. You see, last year he was relegated mainly to return duties with an occasion WR set appearance tossed in there. He was very much spoon fed.

I view him as the key to everything from this point forward.

Does the front office have the "belief" that Switzer is ready to take on a bigger role? Can he step into Beastley's shoes?

Those two monumental questions will directly affect how the front office deals with TRex and Beastley.

Let's face it. No one they've signed to this point can play the shifty slot WR role. So they are pinning their hopes on Switzer. If they think it's time for him to step up, the strategy will involve offering TRex and Beastley in a trade to convince someone to offer perhaps a Safety in exchange (ala Earl Thomas) before the draft or to provide an option to move up in the draft.

If they don't feel Switzer is ready, Beastley's job is safe and TRex will find himself elsewhere. That's my logical take folks. The way in which they view Switzer's readiness is going to immediately affect how they play with TRex & Beastley (who only has one year remaining on his contract), and their overall draft strategy.

Notice I didn't mention Dez once..... That's a whole different conversation and there are plenty of threads talking through it.

All Switzer needs to be is a guy who can catch 15-20 balls this year.

Hurns plays some slot so there's already half of Beasley's snaps gone. I expect we'll see Hurns take the #2 role and slide inside when we go to three WR.

With Beasley in the final year of his deal and coming off a down season, I can easily see us moving him. Certainly a fit for the Pats

I will have to give this some thought, initially to me Switz is just a JAG, but I understand the fascination with his talent.

Therein lies the decision point with the FO. They didn't draft him to be a JAG. Do they have enough belief in his talent and ability to step up this year to get more aggressive with their offseason rearrangement of the WR corps?

Switzer is not the key to any strategy

He is a JAG/STer
Hahahah... I can guarantee you the FO isn't thinking the way you are. I could almost say the same as you given what I have seen from Switzer thus far but neither of us has any idea what has been happening this offseason and what sort of improvement he might be showing to the staff & FO in his first real offseason.

Too quick to label players before they get a real opportunity.

IMO, th WR position now hinges on whether DAL FO can move #83 or #11. Always good strategy to draft a player at a deep position draft pool-wise. A 3rd-4th round WR still good value n this draft.

Agree. The jury is still very much out on Switzer and, like I said, the FO probably knows a lot more than we do regarding his progress.

Switzer will be more of a RB than WR...... a Slashlete

Not enough balls to go around at WR for Beasley let alone Switzer

I got a feeling Beasley is going to get moved.

I think the WRs and coaches are not on the same page and if they could’ve got rid of Dez they would have but with the signing of Hurns and Switzer on the roster I could see them getting rid of Cole.

Just me reading between the lines.

I think Switzer is better than Beasley. He can play those short slot routes as well as Beasley as well as be a WR with expanded routes.

Good post. Switzer may not replace Beasley this year, but it may make Beasley expendable when his contract is up, or in a trade if we go that route.

Yeah they are trying to move on from Dez. The handwriting is on the wall. They can't draft a receiver or two and keep everyone. Someone has to go.

Usually with this FO my latin comes in handy, "lex parsimoniae" when presented with competing hypothetical answers to a problem, one should select the one that makes the fewest assumptions. Some would say Occam's razor. I hold the FO in very low regard for strategy and more comfortable in reactionary solutions. Remember how we got Dak and Zak Martin. I consider Fredrickson an outlier. I sincerely hope I am so wrong. Love reading your opinions

There's still a possibility he replaces him this year. So many trade possibilities are wide open if they believe in Switzer making big progress this year.

Who knows really? The FO might be dumb and not use him right like they did with harris.

Some teams use small quick guys in the slot; others use the big guys there successfully. Jarvis Landry’s career has emphasized success from the slot. They key is we’ve brought in better depth and options.
