The Real Reason Cowboys Coaches Want to Play in Hall of Fame Game

...Yes, it’s nice for players/coaches/staff to be on-hand when team owner Jerry Jones is inducted into the Hall of Fame during the weekend of events. But that’s not why the coaches are fired-up.

Yes, it’s nice to play a fifth preseason game. That’s a full extra preseason game for coaches to see how young players respond to the heightened level of competition in game situations (as compared to another day of practice or sitting in a meeting room). Playing time in game situations are precious commodities; the more time the better. That’s a real reason to start getting fired-up.

But here’s the real reason coaches and player personnel guys inside The Star in Frisco are so happy: the Hall of Fame Game means the Cowboys get an extra week of practice at training camp. And coaches love practice time, especially during training camp which is very regimented and currently has strict rules limiting the number of padded/contract practices...

they can like it all they want. unless we are changing into a new system, practice is not our problem. no one player is. Its going to be on defense, which i hope changes philosphy but not system. Just get at the QB. I dont need it practiced all day, just need them to do it.

Practice is the key to player development. That means one more week of work on scheme and technique in an age where there is less time to practice than ever.

We need guys like Jaylon, Tapper, DLaw, Irving, Collins, Mayowa, Wilson, Hitchens, Brown, Jones, Heath, etc to get better. You act like they get out of bed in the morning and sack the QB.

Theses coaches don't want to play more games that don't count, they want to play less preseason games. Getting a critical player injured in the preseason is just insult to injury. They only need 3 games to tweak the rosters and get down to a season roster. The way it is now, everyone plays too many preseason games and adding that HoF game is just asking for a starter to hurt.

Totally helped for the play off. That extra week, Wooo weeeeee, you can just feels it on the field. those guys were tackling everything. Big HUGE, monstorous help on the field. 3 out of 4 SB winning teams credit more practice (much like stats) to their victories. Truly, BB hammers it every day. He says, "guys, screw scheme, dont even bother showing up for the game, you got practice, sons you got it all FER REELZ." Than he busts some moves, busts some caps and dances out the door.

Huge help for the playoff game. GB never saw it coming.

PS thanks for the new stat we can hang on JG. Practices that just didnt help. We ll start keeping tally next year.
