Antoine Cason is an All-American — again.
The UA football team's star cornerback was named to the All-America first team by The Associated Press on Tuesday, marking his sixth major postseason award in the last 10 days.
Cason won the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the nation's top defensive back, last week. He has been named a first-team All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, SI.com and Rivals.com. Cason, 21, received first-team all-conference honors shortly after the Wildcats finished their season with a Dec. 1 loss to Arizona State.
"I am honored to be recognized by the AP for the All-American team," Cason said Tuesday. "This, along with all the postseason recognition, adds to all the great moments I've had at the U of A."
Tuesday's award won't be Cason's last. He is widely expected to be inducted into the Arizona Stadium "Ring of Honor" next fall for his accomplishments.
The UA requires athletes to win at least one major national award to make the ring: The Thorpe Award and AP honors are more than enough to qualify Cason.
Cason is the first UA player to make AP's first-team All-America list since 1999, when Dennis Northcutt was selected as a kick-return specialist.
Two other Pac-10 players, USC nose tackle Sedrick Ellis and Arizona State place-kicker Thomas Weber, also made this year's team.
The AP's All-Americans were chosen by a panel of 12 sportswriters and media members from across the country.
Cason registered five interceptions, 71 tackles and one sack during his senior season. He also returned two interceptions for touchdowns.
