CFZ The replacement for Tyron could already be on the roster?

Because maybe he's a better at the position he played in college rather than a position he was learning that he hadn't played since high school.

I hope that's the case. I saw him play for Tulsa a few times. He's really strong but sometimes slow to get in position at the snap. He's very intelligent. Maybe he's a quick learner and will adjust to the speed of the NFL quickly.

If McG was going to win the Lg spot then start having Smith take reps at LT.

For week 1 I rather have Ball out there and not rush Smith unless he’s clearly better in practice.

Maybe the replacement for Tyron is already on the roster. First-round pick Tyler Smith was the heir to the left tackle throne. Maybe he should now go ahead and ascend.

The regular season is just around the corner and the Cowboys are going to try to march through a large chunk of it without one of their best players. So maybe it's time to speed up the clock on the development of his heir.

Can the offensive line - in its existing form - protect quarterback Dak Prescott adequately enough for a successful 2022? That was going to be a "maybe'' even with Tyron at left tackle and prized rookie Tyler Smith at left guard.

Of course, Tyler has yet to actually win the left guard job, anyway, according to McCarthy saying this week that Connor McGovern continues to be the first-teamer there.

Leave McGovern at guard. Move Tyler to the left tackle spot that he was slated to "someday'' (two years from now, after the expiration of Tyron's present contract) ... now.
I fully believe Tyler had won the LG spot but in hindsight it's good that Connor got a lot of reps there. Tyler is gonna have some hiccups at LT. He might suck at times, even. But this is the right move.

Imagine Tyler giving up 4-5 sacks, 5-10 pressures, and blowing several OLine calls, all just game one. Risk of putting this kid out there before he's ready is huge IMO. You may never get him back coz trust me, the fallout from social media will be brutal.
I remember Chaz Green showing promise at guard, then the Atlanta game at LT....never recovered

Issac Alarcon is the answer. He had couple of mental lapses but that happens to all OL. Other than that he dominated majority of the game created running lanes and walling off pass rushers.
Got to hand it to you your takes are consistent

If Tyler can't beat out the guy who couldn't beat out Connor Williams, how's he going to replace Tyron? I'd rather ride with Ball.
If he stays at guard then he will start there
MCGovern is first team in camp, he won’t be game one and they’ve kind of already said that when they talked about his reps at FB
Can’t play FB and guard on the same play

I’m a big believer in letting a guy learn one position before sticking him at another
LT is the hardest position on the oline

The problem with moving him to LT is you create an extra layer of question marks.......the position he's leaving and the one he's replacing.

We used our 1st pick for Tyron’s heir apparent. The call just comes sooner than expected.

He obviously will struggle but if he was intended to be Tyron’s heir apparent when we used our 1st pick. it will just get him ready sooner.

Right

Leaving McGovern at LG no big deal. I’d even be ok with moving Steele back to LT. Then ease Tyler in there over time if Steele embarrasses us. Which might be the smarter move.

From what I understand, he didn't work there at all in camp. If he did, it wasn't much.

I'd honestly go with Ball first, which is what I think they are going to do.

Maybe mid season or so for Smith once this OL gets Daks head ripped off and it's Will Grier every week.

They were gonna go with Ball first but he has been terrible. If every fan and TV/Radio broadcaster can see it then the coaches do too. They just have to always try and spin things in a positive direction. McCarthy can't very well go out there and say, "Well we were hoping he would grow into the position over the offseason and camp but, yeah he sucks so now all of our plans are screwed.". Have you ever heard a coach or player say anything bad about about another player or coach before they left the team (OK I will give you Pacells and Singletary) but who else? Anyways... my two cents.

The FO has two weeks to figure out the most effective solution for the problem at LT, even though Stephen is considering Tyler at this point.

The final cuts may possibly offer some type of relief to come up with a solution to fill the void. They'd better hope so. Time isn't on their side.

I just wrote the exact same thing in another thread, right before opening this thread. I expect, Farnoik, Alarcon, and Ball to be our three primary backups.

I could most certainly see our front office doing this.
It's not bad enough that they were unprepared for this very anticipated event.

But now it's time for them to put the icing on the cake and take our rookie offensive lineman throw him to the dogs and try and ruin his confidence

I thought we desperately needed some vet depth along the line BEFORE Tyron Smith was injured. If we sit on our hands now we are asking for a rebuilding year next year. We will be picking high in every round.

Going into this season without picking a vet up on this line is insane. I love Alarcon's story, but he doesn't look like an NFL player out there. Tyler might make a good LT at some point. But having a weak guard starting next to him is REALLY going to make that tough. Rolling with what we've got is believing that every single thing that needs to go right will go night. EVERY SINGLE THING. Every single one of our rookies, free agents and vets we have left have to reach the potential that we hoped they would have.

We need to pick up a couple of reasonably competent vets. Even if they end up being the depth behind our boys, we need them here competing.

Jerry drafted Tyler to play LT, he is going to be one the best of all time. Didn't Jerry or Stephen tell us that? Come on, don't you know they have the most valuable franchise in sports? The Jones Family knows what they are doing. Tyler will be an All-Pro this year.

The call is coming too soon to expect to catch lightning in a bottle 2 years in a row like we did with Micah is an unrealistic expectation.

There is every chance that this young man although having all the tools and potential could be flagged and exposed for the rookie he is creating a confidence problem that could take years to fix.

Beyond that he's starting things off with an ankle injury does this really make any sense to jeopardize your investment like this
