For those of us who watched the game, we got a taste of how those who say "don't blame the refs, for the outcome of the game is not affected by their calls" are in for a treat this year, that is if Goodell doesn't get off his *** and reinstate the experienced NFL officials. The two horrid calls on J. Phillips (Incompletion, Offensive PI) nullified two good forward plays and put us at unfavorable distance to pick up the 1st on the PI call. Also, on the incompletion, the call was challenged in an attempt to overturn the initial completion ruling. The fact that the head ref reviewed the play and still made the wrong call boils my blood.
I don't buy the theory that it all evens itself out in the end (ex: the botched spike which should've been a fumble). I've seen too many times where a bad call had a drastic impact on a game.
I understand that these replacements refs are human, and that mistakes will be made, but with the opportunity to minimize the incorrect calls available, it's sad that there are power/money hungry fools like Goodell tarnishing the integrity and fairness of this game.
Thank God these calls don't mean anything now to the teams, but if this continues on into the regular season, there will be fans calling for the heads of these replacements refs along with Goodell.
