The Replacement Officials Tonight

For those of us who watched the game, we got a taste of how those who say "don't blame the refs, for the outcome of the game is not affected by their calls" are in for a treat this year, that is if Goodell doesn't get off his *** and reinstate the experienced NFL officials. The two horrid calls on J. Phillips (Incompletion, Offensive PI) nullified two good forward plays and put us at unfavorable distance to pick up the 1st on the PI call. Also, on the incompletion, the call was challenged in an attempt to overturn the initial completion ruling. The fact that the head ref reviewed the play and still made the wrong call boils my blood.

I don't buy the theory that it all evens itself out in the end (ex: the botched spike which should've been a fumble). I've seen too many times where a bad call had a drastic impact on a game.

I understand that these replacements refs are human, and that mistakes will be made, but with the opportunity to minimize the incorrect calls available, it's sad that there are power/money hungry fools like Goodell tarnishing the integrity and fairness of this game.

Thank God these calls don't mean anything now to the teams, but if this continues on into the regular season, there will be fans calling for the heads of these replacements refs along with Goodell.

Yeah those two calls on Philips was bad. The ground can't cause a fumble and there was not even evidence to overturn it. Yet that is what they did. Secondly, I want to see a replay of Philips pushing. I bet its another ticky tack foul. These refs should let the players play.

What was laughable was Faulk trying to say that when a receiver goes to the ground, the ball cannot pop out. Um, no. That only applies to end zone plays.

I feel sorry for those of you who had anyone but the Cowboys broadcast crew. I heard it was pretty rough with the STL crew.

Yeah, the refs were terrible tonight, especially on that pass interference call on Phillips.

They also blew that call where they said Phillips fumbled. Guess what? The ground can't cause a fumble. He had control of the football all the way until he hit the ground.

They were just scared Fisher threw the red flag because he was on the replay committee.

That applies to any catch unless the receiver has already established control. The ground can't cause a fumble, but it can cause an incomplete pass.

Ok. I stand corrected, then. But I thought Phillips had established control. CVould be wrong, though. I haven't seen the replay.

Let me ask you, are you prepared to say that the regular refs never blew a call on replay or that they never made a bad call on pass interference?

No one is saying that, but the replacement refs are screwing up with more frequency IMO than the regular refs.

SpyGate, BountyGate, the lockout and the ref strike... Goddell needs to resign

...the replacement refs is not their doing.

I certainly don't blame them and am grateful they are involved in bringing the game to us.

The mistakes we are seeing is something the comish and the owners have to take responsibility for.

If the preseason examples persist into the regular season I will not be calling for the replacement ref's head.

It's not their fault they are not prepared to deal with the NFL game. That's why they were not league refs to begin with.

You're right. I hold Goodell and the owners accountable for this. For the sake of the league's credibility, they need to get a deal done, and quickly.

Well, I guess we will have to agree to disagree :laugh2:

I feel like every week, in every game, big time calls were blown by the regular refs.

Maybe I'm a *****, I don't know...but it seemed like the regular refs sucked anyways. I mentioned this before, but after every Cowboys loss it seems like there's a thread about crappy calls. I don't expect that to change, and in a month or so, I don't expect to notice a difference between the new refs and the old.

Yeah, I don't know whether its the greater frequency of blown calls (albeit its a smaller sample size thus far so lets see how the reg. season goes) or just the sheer stupidity and lack of basic knowledge of the pro game that makes it more apparent to me that these refs suck MORE.

I feel like you can't get worse than blowing the opening coin toss. That's something that, to my knowledge, the new refs haven't screwed up;.s

:laugh2: I just don't see any progress from them throughout pre-season. They all still throw flags just for the hell of it and then decide whether it was a penalty or not after the play.

Horrible! I almost threw something at my TV... Then I realized I'd better save that for the regular season. :laugh2:

I thought the ref did screw up the coin toss for the HOF game, but corrected himself.

I'm not any more worried about it than usual. The bad calls will be going both ways, and just like with regular refs you just have to hope the backbreaker doesn't go against you. The only difference is the obviousness of the errors.
