I am reading everywhere that the focus on the draft in round one will be the defensive line.
While I agree the D line needs help, if this offensive line doesn't get a major talent upgrade we will be right back here at square one next year with a new coach and no direction.
I'd trade back to the early 20's and select Warmack or Cooper in rd 1 depending on who's available and then use the extra pick to move up and take Barrett Jones in rd 2.
You can then either use what little money will be made available to resign Spencer or go after Knighton or Melton for the Dline.
You could even go the safety route and grab Byrd if Melton or Knighton don't make sense. Thoughts???
People will reply that you must go BPA; however, I expect that at any draft position in the 2013 draft, that an Olineman will be very close to the BPA.
I would always go OLine over anything else if other factors were equal. It takes longer to develop OLinemen than most other positions. Also, they increase the value of all of your other offensive players and help the defense by improving time of possession.
I would love to trade down and still get Warmack or Cooper; however, it would be very difficult to do it unless both of them are on the board at #18. DeCastro "fell" to #24 last year; however, there was significantly more QB talent that pushed other players down the board. Also, there was more talent in the top 10 than this year, IMO.
I don't think you need to move up in the 2nd for Barrett Jones. I expected him to go around the Cowboys pick in the 2nd based on talent. Now he had a late season injury that should push him down further.
Knighton is not a fit in the Kiffin scheme.
Melton makes a lot of sense if he does not get Franchised.
Byrd is expected to get Franchised. They could look at some other FA safeties, there are many that would be an upgrade.
