The Right Direction?

It sounds good in premise but Warmack won't be there in the '20s, Cooper may not be either.

I like the draft strategy, take the BPA unless we already are set at that position.
It's extremely rare for one OG to go in the top 20.

Normally I would agree but this years draft has a different feel to it. There is not much in the way of QB's or other sure-fire greats coming out. A lot of the mocks I have seen have Warmack going in top 5 and Cooper in top 16. Who knows how it all shakes down though.

im gonna predict we will take a Safety in the 1st round if the top one is still on the board at #18. if not we will either go OT or DL depending on who is there, Im willing to bet a sig bet with anyone that we will pass on a guard in the first 3 rounds.

I really don't think we will go safety early. Even though I think it would be a good pick because it is also a need. It will all depend on what is still available.

I am confused by the monumental shift to our teams defense. I am reading everywhere that the focus on the draft in round one will be the defensive line. While I agree the D line needs help, if this offensive line doesn't get a major talent upgrade we will be right back here at square one next year with a new coach and no direction. My belief is that we should draft Oline in Rd 1 and 2 much like San Fran did when they selected Iupati and Davis in the first round a couple years back. I'd trade back to the early 20's and select Warmack or Cooper in rd 1 depending on who's available and then use the extra pick to move up and take Barrett Jones in rd 2. This gives us a core on the Oline to take into the next several years with Tyron! You can then either use what little money will be made available to resign Spence or go after Knighton or Melton for the Dline. You could even go the safety route and grab Byrd if Melton or Knighton don't make sense. Thoughts???

I completely agree. Trade down, get more picks and take all Oline. Too bad it wont happen.

I'm really not sure drafting DL in the 1st is necessary. I actually think the move to the 43 actually hepls that cause. Think about it. Brent and Ratliff are probably gone. Staying in the 34 would almost guarantee a high draft pick on the DL. Now, in the 43, they slide their 34 DE to DT and move their OLB's to DE. So, why again would we need to draft a DL in the 1st?

I doubt either are gone.

It's way too early, no combine. There have been qbs go high (even a run) where you laugh your behind off on draft day they go so high.

Yep, like Locker and Ponder...

QB is such a crucial position that teams reach for them. Every year.

Feeling guilty?

Not at all. Unlike some folks here I feel there is no subject about this team that is not fair game to be discussed.

This team has been on a mediocre spiral for several years.

Now we can all live in a day dream about how we want it to turn out.

But I prefer not to be a Stepford fan.

People will reply that you must go BPA; however, I expect that at any draft position in the 2013 draft, that an Olineman will be very close to the BPA.

I would always go OLine over anything else if other factors were equal. It takes longer to develop OLinemen than most other positions. Also, they increase the value of all of your other offensive players and help the defense by improving time of possession.

I would love to trade down and still get Warmack or Cooper; however, it would be very difficult to do it unless both of them are on the board at #18. DeCastro "fell" to #24 last year; however, there was significantly more QB talent that pushed other players down the board. Also, there was more talent in the top 10 than this year, IMO.

I don't think you need to move up in the 2nd for Barrett Jones. I expected him to go around the Cowboys pick in the 2nd based on talent. Now he had a late season injury that should push him down further.

Knighton is not a fit in the Kiffin scheme.

Melton makes a lot of sense if he does not get Franchised.

Byrd is expected to get Franchised. They could look at some other FA safeties, there are many that would be an upgrade.

hard to argue that the oline is more of a weakness than the dline..its about equal

take the BPA and go from there

In a 4/3 you have Ware, Spencer and Ratliff on the DLine.
