Screens are effective against man coverage. Dak can't throw into zone coverages, and teams figured that out. Teams now run zone a ton against Dallas. So screens are kaput.

Basic football 101.

Meanwhile, Kellen Moore gets to open up the other 75% of his playbook with Herbert. He'll be an entirely different OC with the Chargers.
Ya, Dak can't throw into Zones....that is why he had the highest rating ever recorded vs a zone defense vs Philly this year.

What you meant to say is...Kellen's "scheme", if you want to call it that, is terribly designed to attack zone defenses. I am sure implementing an actual WCO offense from a guy who actually knows and has proven to attack a defense won't help at all.

So negative...

lol...your dad was not pulling your leg. When your dad used to get drunk was when the Dallas Cowboys were the winners...time to celebrate and get drunk. Now, we just get drunk because of these wanna be Cowboys.
Well, full disclosure here. My dad never watched football.
It was me, drunk in my underwear yelling into a mirror "we used to be able to run screens successfully too".

Dak is gawd awful against zones. Just horrific. This is common knowledge.

You keep pulling out this one game with a backup QB that Philly had to seriously screw up to lose in the end as your example. That's what so comical. That game was gifted to Dallas by the Eagles, who played a horrible game that night.

It's hard to play when you've already wrapped up the No. 1 seed for all intents and purposes.

U do realize the screen play is to counter a blitz..... otherwise it fails for a loss.

Wow...where to start with this one.....

Ya Philly got ROASTED on defense because they played a backup qb who couldn't play zone. WHA?????

Philly LITERALLY brought champagne to Dallas to celebrate. They had EVERY intention to win that game...keep making stuff up.

BUT when Philly barely beat Dallas with their backup, you were telling everyone how amazing philly was. Pathetic.

Bingo. Kellen was trying to use wr screens to replace the run game.

in the nfl why would you run a screen play ?

A screen play is often run in the NFL to take advantage of a defense that is pursuing the quarterback or ball carrier too aggressively. This play involves offensive players blocking for a receiver or running back, who catches a short pass and runs behind the blocks for a potential big gain. Screen plays can also slow down a pass rush, create a change of pace, and catch the defense off guard.

Yeah, this is going to be exciting to see who they bring in to implement that scheme. Since I don't keep up with that kind of stuff. Who is out there as an OC for MM?

This team has the players, they just need a new path to follow and learn how not to be so damn, what is the word...the same damn thing? The opposing team telling us Cowboy fans they knew what is coming?

Sometimes Football 101 is not bad when you get back to some basics that work...the trick stuff is just stuff.

Some think it's a chess match and it's really checkers, but the King survives.

I personally am not expecting some hot name but a McCarthy protégé. Someone he has worked with currently or in the future.

I would not expect the Qb coach on the Eagles Johnson that Todd Archer speculated.

The biggest change we will all see right off the bat is the return of one of the staple plays in football....the screen play.

There is no way we will not turn into one of the better screen teams in the NFL. Our OL with Steele and minus Tyron can run this play with the athletes we have on that line. Not since Parcells have we seen a consistent screen game on this team.

Garrett and his lineage had no idea how to implement one.

Can't wait.
It needs to comeback

The Cowboys have been awful with screens and other deception plays. To me that is a sign they do not work on the little details that make those plays successful. That is maybe 1 good reason Moore had to go.

They should do What Lombardi did. Pick out a few plays and practice them until they get perfect perfect. Then they can run them in games with a high confidence level for success.

JG/KM's offense has had this issue going back to Romo days. Romo in 2015 threw 3INTS and broke his shoulder getting whacked in the pocket vs Carolina.
Carolina was playing mainly zone defense that day. Romo was a 12year vet in 2015 yet he was still getting fooled by a "Robber" sitting in a zone watching the QB.
This is because the scheme does close to nothing to stress the defense and puts the QB/offense at a disadvantage.
