Ladies and gentlemen, after months of no football the 2013-2014 season is upon us. Last year, is last year, it is time for a new season, a new team, a new beginning.

Jason Garrett is back (much to the chagrin of some) with less but more duties than before. While we all cheer, or question him losing his playcalling, it is what he has gained that we forget. For the last two and half years we have all griped about his ability to handle game management situations, and his penchant for getting conservative for too often. Without this need for calling plays it allows for him to keep his focus on the overall flow of the game, and to be able to talk to not only the offensive players but the defensive players, and the special teams. What Garrett has gained is the ability to focus on being the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, which itself is the most daunting task in the NFL.

Tony Romo and the offense is back for another season of Cowboy Heart Attack. Though we drafted another OL in the first round, we are still sitting in a myriad of injuries hoping that the young guys step up their game, and the Vets can stay healthy for more than a practice. While we know what we have in Dez Byrant and Jason Witten, we question everything else, can T-Will play? Can our OL block? Can Murray stay healthy? Will the "12" personnel actually work this time? None of these questions will be answered tomm, or next week, or even the week after that. We won't know until December, but what we can find out, is just what kind of players we have on the team. Starting tomorrow we can start to see firsthand just how good this Leary kid can be, if Tyron is what we hope him to be, or if he's just another avg player. If Arkin has gotten stronger, if Free really has stepped up his game, and if the rookie is ready for the NFL. Last year we didn't fail because Romo throw that INT, we didn't fail because Murray got hurt, we didn't fail because Bryant broke his finger and back. We failed because we couldn't block consistently week to week. It's time to find out whether we have improved.

The Defense has underwent a major overhaul. Gone is the "all bark but no bite" Ryan. While we can lament the injuries and lack of depth, what we can't ignore is that Ryan even as far back as Oakland, just rarely had the bite that should come when some barks as much as he does. He didn't fit the process and it was time for a chance. Enter Kiffin and Company. Kiffin though 73, is proving that age is really just a number and has brought it every walkthrough, every practice, every meeting. He has breathed life into this defense, that too many times last year just didn't have it. He's brought a system that plays to our best defensive player’s strength in the 4-3. No longer will we see Ware carrying TE's, and RB's up the field while the QB sits in the pocket all day. no longer will we sit back on 3rd and 8 with a three man rush and watch teams secure first down after first down. Kiffin is here not to blitz madly, but to bring the heat, and cover with speed and smarts. Lee is healthy, Carter is getting seasoned, Ware is hungry, and the secondary is lined up. You can feel the energy, you can feel the passion, and you can see the desire for not only success but turnovers. We will see a new cowboys D this year, and not just because we changed schemes.

Overall this team is ready to start the 2013-2014 season. While we can't know how successful we will be, whether we will get and stay healthy or flame out. But people its time to buckle up, because finally.......i'm sorry Finally......one more time people...FINALLY, the Dallas Cowboys are here. And regardless of whether you love them, hate them, think we are going to win the Superbowl, or miss the playoffs once more, the Dallas Cowboys Ride, has begun, and it’s time to hop on board.
