The Seattle Cowboys?

I see the run game as a way to prop up QBs as much as anything. Seattle is running because Wilson simply wasn't going to survive taking the kind of beatings he did the last couple years. Seattle's defense was eroding too and couldn't keep games close on their own any more. So they take the air out of the football, slow the game down, and get Wilson back to the low volume high-efficiency football he had earlier succeeded at.
Sure.

They may have no other choice but to lean on the run game. But they are 5-5. We need to lean on the run game. We are 4-5.

Dynamic offenses, great schemes, new wave coaching and excellent passing QB's are dominating the league.

Thats just the way it is.

Ground and pound is still around. But they are nowhere near the top of the league. These teams are just scuffling along. Because that how the NFL wants and how the rules have been changed to encourage.

Thanks Jason. Enjoy your 8 wins

The running game has never meant less than it does today.

But the Cowboys have to run the ball because of the QB and HC.

And that leaves us far behind the top teams.

but yet, when Zeke gets going, we win, how does that work.

this Is a passing league and your defense has to be at least top 5 o r 6 and have lots of turnovers and be in the top of the league In scoring defense and you have to have really good qb play and really good coaching

RW3 is far better a QB than Dak, he can win playoff games including SB,
Seattle's home games getting special treatment from refs.

Don't even compare about the 2 franchises.

RW got into the superbowl thru running the ball and solid defense. He did not carry the team.

Funny how people say how great RW was but in his 1st 3 years defense and the run game carried him.

Now when Dak is helped by a good run game and defense lots of folks here says he needs a good defense and run game to carry him.

The Seattle Seahawks are like the Cowboys. They got away from the ground and pound attack after their SuperBowl loss to New England. The team tried to put the offense on the back of Russell Wilson & the team went south. Going into this season, the same plan didn't produce with a 0-2 start. So the Seahawks really focused on running the ball and good defense. Seattle doesn't have exciting WRs or a TE to mention of.
They have average --at best-- RBs but have 2-3 good RBs, so they use the RB by community route. Not asking Wilson to win the game but has the ability to do so. Wilson threw for alittle over 200 yrd vs GB, with no INTs and made some BIG passes to keep drives alive.

This process resembles what the Cowboys have or are trying to accomplish. But does this type of approach lead to a .500-ish record. Seattle is now 5-5 and Dallas is trying to get to that same mediocre level.
But they can't be like us....didn't Jerry say not long ago that we're a carbon copy of the Rams?

this is so boring and exactly what the media wants, "hey watch the people do as we say"

fans: its a passing league

fans: we need a difference maker

fans we do what the media tells us.

Spoiler Alert, its not a pasisng league, its a winning league, that means you go with whatever formula that wins and you either emulate it or dare i say have to do real coaching. You dont have a passing league if most of the qbs are average, and you dont win if your team cant score, i dont care how good your qb is, if your WRs suck or your team cant do it, oh well.

we are a team that should be a run team, and look around the league, freak out and pass and our QB sad to say cant do it on his own.

Uh, no, it's a passing league with rules built around the pass.

Look who has the best records in the NFL right now and the answers jump out at you.

This is a passing league. It's a QB driven league. It's an offensive innovator driven league. The rules support this. The running game is nice, but it's not the primary driver for success. Nor is defense. This is the way the NFL wants to be.

It's similar in the NBA. Steph Curry has changed the way basketball is played today.

Some people don't like it. That's the way it is.

Adapt or die. The Cowboys are not adapting. They need new coaching.
Ball control and time of position still work but you have to have both sides of the trenches firing Dallas does not.

I agree with your assessment of the league. However, you can't blame the coaching for the strategic decisions made by management.

Management made the decision to use a rare #4 overall pick on a RB.

Management made the decision to devote a large amount of draft and salary cap resources to the O-Line.

Management made the decision to trade a 1st round pick for a WR.

Management made the decision to devote nothing more than a late 4th round pick on a QB- the most important position on the team.

I'll not defend Garrett, but the lack of adaptation by the Cowboys is based on the strategic decisions of management, not the coaching staff. The GM is a FAR bigger problem than the coaching in Dallas.
Why are those decisions bad again?

Much like everything in the 21st century, the modern NFL is constantly evolving. Teams, coaches and players that are innovative and quick to adapt are the ones experiencing the most success. Sadly, Jason Garrett as a HC has none of the qualities of a highly adaptive, innovative football mind. Which IMO explains much of what ails this team.

Whether we like or not, the strong running game model we had so much success with in the distant and recent past is much more difficult to have success with in today’s game. The fans screaming “Just run the ball” haven’t seemed to notice that in today’s NFL, if you’re not able to score 30 or more every week, you’re just not going to compete.

The 2014 version of our Cowboys, which actually won a playoff game and went as far as any of our teams in two decades, might not even be a great offense today. The strong running game, control the clock style works well as long as you score every time you get the ball. Because these high powered offenses today are going to score early and often, so it actually puts more pressure on the old school way of offense to keep up.

The bottom line in today’s game- what worked this year may not next year. Because great football minds and the teams they coach or play for are always changing. If you stay the same, you get left behind.

It's more correct to say it's a passing efficiency league. People get enamored with how many yards the QB passes but passing yards is not the important stat when it comes to passing efficiency. TD percentage and INT percentage are more important than total yards passed.

Also, RBs can play a big role in QB's ability to pass efficiently. It's no coincidence that the top 3 offenses this year (KC, LA, NO) all have good RBs that can run and catch well. The name of the game is balanced offense.

Our problem is we sunk all our resources in the run game and neglected the passing game . It's gotten better with the addition of Cooper but we need another difference makers in the passing game to become a top 10 offense. Hopefully Gallup will continue to get better and be that difference maker.

Our coaches needs to really understand that if they don't adapt, this team will fail. We can still have a good run game so long that our passing game is good or better. They need to also coach Dak up and work on some of his footwork, touch, and accuracy. All which can be fixed with good coaching.

Hello from Australia everyone. Been here since the 7th. Been enjoying too much to post, but after reading this I just had to.
Can’t compare Dak to Russell Muscle Hustle.
This is a passing league, you can’t win without it. The Steph curry comp is spot on. We have Brees passing at nearly 80 percent completion. Teams play good defense in stretches, you cannot hold a team to under 20 points consistently. You have to play to win. Can’t be like Mcarthy was on Thursday night and punt on 4and 2. Russell Wilson was built to get two first downs and end that game.

Over simplification of how wins and losses are acquired. Coaching & Talent. You need both.
