Over the last couple of weeks our pass defense has shut down 2 very pass happy offenses. The credit probably goes to our growth and gelling as a team, learning the new schemes...etc.

But what about Pile, has this guy really helped playing FS in nickle situations, is it just a coincidence that we shut down Plex and TO since he's been the FS in the nickle.

What are your guys thoughts on this kid ?

If we aren't hearing his name he must be doing a good job unless he should have been covering Shockey.....I think he's James' man.

I think we've had a better pass rush the last couple of games which has made the secondary's job much easier.

Pile has been better than Davis in coverage, but is still craptacular. Roy's been good/excellent in coverage, but he gets the blame whenever anybody else screws up it seems.

The reason why we've shut down opposing offenses lately is because we have a pretty good pass rush that's made even better by the play of the CB's and Roy. It appears to me that the players, especially DeMarcus Ware, aer getting more comfortable with the scheme.

How was the TD to Shockey not RW's fault? He admitted as much post-game.

I do agree that Roy gets the blame for anything that happens on long passes, not sure how much of it is deserved...but Willie Pile is playing a lot more in nickel that Keith Davis, and what do you know....were playing in nickel a lot more than normal...

but hey, our nickel man to man coverage has been working very well with the athletic cornerbacks that we have. Even with the 4 man front in nickel, they have managed to get some decent pressure...20 sacks in 6 games isnt shabby either.

I also read a stat that says Newman has had 2 passes on him in 10 quarters...thats pretty good IMO.

Just some points that I rememberd.. when the Chargers made that 4th and forever and get into scoring range in the 4th ..Keith Davis was blitzing and according to the Coaches, he wasnt supposed to. Thats one of the long passes we were burned on.

I remember when Woody played SS and Roy played FS.. seemed they were both always around the ball on deep passes, not just one or the other like it is now.

He admitted that he did not get the coverage call form the sideline. He did not say that Shockey was his man; that still have never been clarified. It looked more like he was Bradie James' man from the way the play developed but we may never know. The bottom line is that it was a breakdown in communications between the sideline and the players on the field. Maybe it was RW's fault and maybe it was the sideline's fault.

he didnt get the call according to him...it wasnt like Shockey faked him out or ran by him for a TD, which is what alot of you people claim happens on every single completion downfield against us...as YR said, alot of you make RW a scapegoat for every cmpletion this defense gives up...

how many passes did Shockey catch in the first half? virtually every reception he had in the 2nd half was a blown assignment, and the long one earlier in the 4th was a combination of Manning having 10 secods to throw and nobody guarding Shockey

He didn't get the call twice?

As for Pile, how many long TD passes have we been burned for since he took over? Don't see how Roy is getting blamed unjustly for anything.

Thanks ABQ, that was really my point. We haven't been burned deep since Pile started playing FT in the prevent and nickle.

No way was Shockey being covered by Brady James...that's ridiculous. He was Roy Williams man in man to man coverage according to Aikman, whom I trust as a guy who can read coverages, especially the Cowboys coverages. According to Aikman, Roy was in man to man coverage on both plays, 4th down and the TD.

The Aikman explained it was that Roy was lined up over Shockey, but played off 12 yards which became 15 with his backpeddle....Shockey surprised him by running the quick crossing route across the field, which left too much yardage for Roy to make up...this explains why he pulled Shockey down from behind on the fourth down completion and was chasing on the TD completion.

He didn't get faked out or blow the coverage...he just played off him, probably to not give up the yardage needed by the Giants, and then the sprinting cut across the field put him in a bind to pick through traffic and make up ground. Whether it's correct or not, Aikman reported the man to man coverage in his commentary on TV during the game. I'm sure Roy learned something from it.

I like Roy Williams but that one is burned in my memory and the aw shucks gesture afterwards. I don't understand how their best receiver goes uncovered when the game is on the line, or if you call that coverage wthf. It could have cost us the game, it negated about a whole game's great play...

Pile was burned badly by Westbrook in the Philly game, Westbrook just didn't make the catch.

I don't have my notes with me, but there were some other times where he got burned pretty badly.

He's not a very good cover guy, he's just better than Davis.

Perhaps AdamJT can give his thoughts as well.

Roy has to play the coverage given to him. Remember, Dallas had Newman covering Shockey on a few occasions as well. Just because you're the safety doesn't automatically mean you are the one to cover the TE.

Rich...........
Pile had coverage assignments on Shockey in that game as well.
