I just Rewatched that Minnesota game on tape. Mark Columbo was past bad. he was flatout terrible. Ray Edwards abused him bad. and i can not get it out of my mind. i think Columbo is done. who else agrees? Baron has looked very good in camp going against Ware. and i really like free. but something has to be done about Columbo.

Colombo also came off an injury too fast so of course he was out of conditioning and still injured. I am not knocking Baron, I think he is good, but Colombo brings that awesome nasty attitude when he plays and I think he does a decent job on the end.

I would like to see Colombo play some games in the upcoming pre season to see how he is doing. Judging him coming off an injury like he had I think is premature in terms of Colombo being done or not.

Columbo has one hell of a mean streak in him. I really like that. I dont know much about Barrons mean streak or lack there of, but if healthy, I would not have a problem with Columbo for one more season.

If Barron can prove hes better, I have no aversions to him replacing Columbo, but I would miss that mean streak. Columbos the first one there when someone gets uppity with Felix or Miles or even a kicker. No one messes with Columbos boys.

Phillips admits making mistake with Colombo
By Tom Orsborn on Jul 29, 10 07:07 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) Save & Share

Wade Phillips admitted he made a mistake by starting Marc Colombo at right tackle in the playoffs against Minnesota last season.

It was only Colombo's second game back after missing seven games with an ankle injury and broken fibula.

Colombo looked solid in his first start, a 34-14 victory over Philadelphia in the first round of the playoffs. But he surrendered three sacks to Minnesota defensive end Ray Edwards in 34-3 loss to the Vikings.

"I probably shouldn't have let him come back, and he did," Phillips said. "He ended up not doing as well as he can do, but he is fine now."

If Barron was all that and a bag o' chips, the Rams would not have traded him....good NFL OT's do not come along every day.

Colombo has been a damn good player. He was coming off an injury. He is over it now, lets see how he does. At least Colombo loves the game. Barron is like Roy Williams. He plays it because he has a talent for it and gets paid big bucks.

If Barron can beat out Colombo; then okay, but until he does. Colombo is my RT.

How long is it going to take for people to get over the damn Minnisota game?

Columbo was not at full speed and even Wade admits that it was a mistake for him to be playing. But one game does not define a career...if it did we would need to get rid of half of the team because there was a lot of suckage going on in that game. Columbo is the fire and attitude on that line and Barron is NOT going to replace that.

You do realize he was playing after recovering from a broken leg, right?

Wade finally admitted what alot of us believed at the time, that it was a mistake to put Colmbo back out there in the postseason. But he was not having a poor year before he got hurt, he was playing well.

If you just rewatched the Minnesota game, you are now experiencing a bit of PTSD. Get back from the ledge, take a deep breath, and wait for several weeks of preseason football. You'll have plenty of time to see if Columbo is done (or not).

The starting OL will be Free, KK, Gurode, Bigg and MC, unless injuries happen or something comes from left feild.

I don't expect these guys to be world-beaters this year---just keep Romo healthy and let Barber, Jones and Choice get around 1200 to 1400 yds. combined. The OL is in transition. We will probably see Gurode replaced soon as well as KK and Bigg, if he has another so-so year.

They combined for over 1800 yds last year .... I certainly hope they can beat 1400 yds this year. I'd really like to see us be able to jump out to a big lead early and often, and then settle into a good dose of the running game in the second half.

Knowing what we know about the Vikings game we do ourselves a disservice coming to any conclusions based on that game alone.

Our starting tackles should be the players that prove themselves in TC and pre-season. We need to put the best players on the field period.

Years.

Probably a third of the board is still butt hurt over Crayton's drop in the Giants game years ago (even though it was not outcome determinative).

It's annoying.

If for some reason Columbo can't get the job done I'd be more comfortable moving Free back to RT and Barron to LT.

Colombo was coming off an injury in the Minnesota game, and our entire O-line got abused, not just him.

Barron was considered expendable by a team that is so bad it can't afford to let even moderately talented players go.

Let's let it play out in training camp, and watch in preseason, then have this discussion.

Fully agree----that extra edge, the nasty side is essential in some element of a football team.......Conrad Dobler took it some to far, as did maybe the late Jack Tatum rip, but doggone it...........how many other on this present day Cowboy team have it.............MBIII,

In the superbowl yrs---I saw Haley, D.Woodson, Norton, Big E, Tuneini, Irvin as having enough nasty........and Troy had his own type of nasty within the huddle when guys were not up to snuff
